600 is fairly normal. it's a 6 or 8 hour job i think?

i was quoted $1200 by a friend who owns a shop and that included all fluids and the clutch (exedy organic hd) and everything

where was this quote from? I'm in houston as well. I perform all my own work myself. I could help you out if need. do it for way less. I do know that the labor charges for certain shops are pretty high as I dealt with that last year getting an e85 tune.

Alldata pays like 9.8hrs. I charge $500 plus fluids. If I had a shop with overhead, I would charge more..

Seems that labor is pretty expensive in the states.
Here in Bulgaria the shop changed mine + flywheel for $200 without fluids.

1100 isnt bad. I did it myself and the clutch was 350 for a stock exedy, fluids was about 100 bucks or more, but the little things added another 250 bucks on top. Granted, I did my oil pan reseal, and rear main seal, along with some tie rods and some broken exhaust and manifold bolts. There were other little things here and there I bought, so total was around 1000 bucks with me doing all the work. If time is an issue, I think that is not a bad price.
