Engine oil leak

What? You can't overfill an oil filter. If its not hand tight the gasket may leak. When you last changed oil, if the old gasket got left on the car, the oil filter will leak a lot.

That's what I was told, sounded odd to me as well, but seems from what you are saying that I may need a new oil filter, correct?

I am by no means an expert but from what I know if the oil filter was installed correct it should not leak at all. So I would suggest u check it see if the filter is on all the way on there nice and snug. If that dosnt work u will need to drain the oil from the pan remove the filter clean everything off properly inspect the housing and reinstall a new filter preferably making sure the gasket on the filter is fine and lubed with a little oil before reinstalling.

sounds fair, I will check it out when I get a chance, would it still be okay to drive?

In a normal world the engine would not leak at all. How safe driving a vehicle with an engine leaking oil depends on how diligent you are at maintaining the proper oil level by adding oil. An engine with low oil is quickly ruined.

You cannot overfill a oil filter.
If its leaking
A. The old oring wasnt removed and is double o ringed.
B. Its loose.
