Where are you guys buying alternators from? Just the cheap auto zone (link) or something else?

Thanks but I'm more concerned with longevity than the price. I don't think they sell band new OEM units so I want the best/good remanufactured unit. I know it's a PIA so I don't want to do this again any time soon.

If you don't like doing it again refrain from remanufactured units. They come with a lifetime warranty for a reason. The reason is they let you replace them until you hit upon a good one.

Yes I understand that but the problem is I don’t believe anyone makes brand new units for our car. I’m just trying to find people who have replaced theirs and where they purchased them.

This is the way to go if you don't want to touch your alternator for a long while. Seeing how much of a pain it is remove the alternator, OEM is the best choice imo.

Replacing the alternator is really not that hard...

Anyway, I have an oreilly's one my car, has been doing well, and I've had good luck with their units in the past. The other parts chains I can't say I've had good luck with.

alternators and A/C compressors are some of the few things i actually prefer a reman part on. its usually just the front case bearing or the regulator in an alternator that goes bad. really not worth the 300$ for a new one. heck i have been super cheap and spent the 20$ for the case bearing and 35$ for the regulator and put them in an old alternator myself. good to go for another 100k miles.

I'd rather keep my core and let a rebuilder do his/her work over purchasing an aftermarket unit.

Bought a new one from STM and installed it. Getting that **** out was the hardest part. I had an alternator bracket that couldn't be removed. Nut holding it in place was under a pulley.

Just in case someone searches this:

- remove wheel
- remove belt using tensioner
- remove 2 nuts and 1 bolt from alternator
- unplug sensor from alternator
- remove nuts holding abs
- remove nuts from ps line
- remove nuts from ac line
- remove 2 bolts end of fuel rail remove that (brain fart can't remember what it's called)
- remove alternator bracket
- remove cam gear cover
- remove passenger motor mount bolt
- jack up passenger side of motor under oil pan using a piece of wood to displace the weight
- take out oil dip stick
- scrape up you knuckles cussing pulling and pushing things out of the way to get the alternator out

Thread that helped me https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...nator-top.html. I had to remove/move some additional items.
