Question New here / MAF issues

Hello, I am very new here but have lurked for a while. I have an 03 Evo 8 I bought that is 80% stock on built internals. Long story short I am having issues that I cant rule out if its a tuning issue or not. Before I bought a new MAF the engine would die when it was plugged in, or use way way too much fuel when not plugged in, so I bought a new one. Now with the new one, when plugged in the car starts and idles fine but looses all boost under load, straight 0 on the boost gauge. But when unplugged the car just dumps gas in and smokes really bad. I am at a dead end and need some guidance. Shop did a boost leak test and there are no leaks. Also did a compression test for a different issue that has been worked out and have good compression across every cylinder. I live in Nebraska and there aren't any tuners that I know of in Omaha, was recommended someone in Sioux Falls but cant get the car there. Hoping its not a tuning issue but wouldn't rule it out.

No, no trouble codes, tried to run it around a little in hopes that it would throw one.

You need to run an ECU log on it & that should show what is going on.

Ok. Has anyone used Evoscan around here before? I was thinking about getting Evoscan and ECUflash just to peep around but I don't want to catastrophically **** up the car.

No I doubt anyone has ever used Evoscan here before. I might even go as far as saying many don't even know what evoscan is.

Jokes aside, you won't **** anything up by simply logging. If you intend to read/write to the ecu, just backup the original rom.

Lol, thanks for the info. I have to get an adapter still so there will be a break between responses. Other than that, any recommended OBD2 connecters other than the one on the ECUflash site?

I had a similar issue with my MAF, would hesitate for a split second at 3K RPMs. Replaced with another MAF and bad my tuner adjust the tune. For now pull the log from Evoscan or ECUflash.

Question

Hello again, after the long wait my scan tool is here, and let me start by saying there is alot to look at on EvoScan. If I were to want to find my MAF to see what is going on with it, where would I do so? On top of that, what would I need to change once I get there? Any hint is helpful, and I I will be out of town from the 21st to the 25th. Thank you all.

A lot of info here, I did 3 logs, 1 at idle, 2 is with a little throttle, 3 is a round the cul-de-sac in 1st gear. Please **** on me all you want as long as there is some advice in there somewhere. I did these all with the MAF unplugged and forgot to get one with it plugged in. Please help, I just want to enjoy this car for once instead of having a headache.
