2006 Evo Values
2006 Evo Values
Evo owners get techy and detailed in their own ways. I want to understand current pricing (as of this post, so late 2022). So here is my technical analysis of pricing of recently sold 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX vehicles that were sold on BringaTrailer.com - which seems to have the most transactions. Anyone can access this data, i simply consolidated it. Analyzing the difference between Stock and Modified Evo values seems to be the trickiest part to discern from this data... I hope this helps other current Evo owners and purchasers as well.
BringaTrailer.com Sales Data:
This includes all 2006 Evos that were Sold between 6/19/2019 – 8/18/2022.
$37,395. ***** is the Average Sale Price of MODIFIED Evos (70,000 – 123,000 miles)
$40,083. ***** is the Average Sale Price of MODIFIED Evos (9,000 - 44,000 miles)
$46,898. ***** is the Average Sale Price of STOCK Evos (13,000 – 44,000 miles)

As I am sure many are aware, two of the STOCK Evo Sales are the outliers, with odometers of 800 miles & 2,500 miles, sale dates of 10/6/2021 & 3/24/2022, and prices of $82,000 & $90,000.

Bring a Trailer is not real life. It's a place where people with a lot of money go to buy the best available example of something, and they favor very clean and unmodified cars that do not have flaws. Buyers typically don't care at all about the location of the car itself, and it is therefore not the benchmark for your local Evo market. Don't let a $50k BaT result dissuade you from wanting to buy a well-kept local IX, I can assure you that the price you pay will not be what gets tossed around at an online auction.
Fixed.
I know what you're getting at, and I agree, but BaT and auctions in general are going to become more relevant as time goes on.
As these cars become more collectible, I think we will see the auction format become increasingly popular based on what has happened with other older collectible vehicles.
Value and rarity seems directly proportional to the likelihood the vehicle will be sold at auction.

I have BAT email me every time any model year evo gets listed so I have a bit of a sales history in my mailbox going back a few years. Cant say BAT isnt real life, these cars are being sold and anyone can list... Additionally I dont understand why you limited the scope to 06 model year. Even some of the 03s have gone for good money. Would be more helpful to show all CT9A sales on BAT.
My 05 which is basically a 9 with a few exceptions like MIVEC, front bumper, and interior colors has 22k miles on it. Has crossed my mind to sell it given current valuations. Even for modded or high mileage cars, I believe its worth a pretty penny and certainly equal to or more than I paid for it 17 years ago. But as I've said in the past I dont see any equivalent vehicle short of spending double the money on an M car. Or moving to some other 90s/early 2000s platform via import or domestic market. At that point I cant justify selling it. And in my state we have personal property taxes so any new or newer car would cost me a lot of money every year in tax.
What concerns me is part availability over time. I know the aftermarket is still strong but for some of the OE parts and potential wear and tear items(drivetrain by example) if you want to track these cars, it is none the less concerning.
Bottom line, I'll just keep it for now.

Really good thread. Thanks for posting those numbers!
I'm a car speculator. I love trying to buy cars before they increase in value. I've always loved Evos. I definitely see them becoming more valuable. The 2006 model year will be in most demand, however, the best, closest to stock, cars will obviously bring in the most money.
At this point, i wouldn't say BaT prices are what you can expect for your local ones for sale...... just yet!
The same thing happened to the Integra Type R. BaT prices were increasing but the local ones for sale were still reasonably priced. Prior to 2020, prices were going up, but not to the degree the BaTs were. The low-mileage ITR that sold for $80k on BaT shook up the ITR market. That was in 2017 I believe. Post 2022, all went up. Even 180k mile examples are listed for $40k+.
Not sure if you guys saw the 7k mile PY ITR sold for $112k this past summer.

I think the same will happen to the Evo 8 and particularly Evo 9 in the near future.
My dream Evo is a blue 2006 MR.

As others have said, it's an auction, similar to BaT.
In many cases, bidders come out of nowhere at the last minute. Highest bid wins. I'm looking forward to a bidding war on that RS.
Don's Evo IX on BaT right now is a real outlier. I hope it goes big
