The Supra smokes the Evo. It's also not a $60k car.

Source, sold 550whp track weapon of an Evo to buy and build a Supra. This is my red track car, and this was my 2nd time out in the car, ever. First time out in the car it was bon stock, including brakes and Michelin super sport tires. Did splitter/wing, coulovers, control arms, exhaust/tune, cooling, and 295's. Did the same lap time as the Evo in the Supra at my home track.

I'd be willing to hold off on selling my Supra if it would mean running it, as is, against your Evo. Just for ****s and giggles, of course.

 

I don't know how your cars were built, but I just don't see a 382hp Supra keeping up with mine. I understand your chassis tuning/confidence can be higher than a cobbled together Evo, but 500-600whp AWD on 285s at like 3100lbs is still a threat. I was neck and neck 3 pulls with a McLaren 720s, and also ahead of one at an autocross but that was probably just an inexperience/uncommitted driver. Your real track experience is a better comparison than that, but still.

Yeah a Supra will be consistent longer than an overstressed Evo on its last legs, but faster though? Really?

Edit: Pretty similar mods to LetsGetThisDone's signature actually. 2.4, 272s, BBK-3B, ID1700s, Ohlins, etc. 530 on Dyno Dynamics should be about 580-600 on Dynojet. AC and ACD delete, basic weight savings. Slower than a Supra? Is the chassis tuning that good?

 

what? that's a bolt on supra. I never said my evo would beat a modified one, only stock. there's definitely some track dependency too - the tracks I run at definitely don't have the straights that one does. like i said Tomo in my car was faster than ding (like for like driver) at gingerman compared to a stock supra with wheels and tires, but there's not too many long straights there. I don't doubt some bolt ons + tune would unlock a ton of power in that car.

I'm also confused how it's not a 60k car? Technically 55k for a base 3.0? or are you talking used? i'm not against it, i'm open minded especially with a potential s58 version in the works, I just haven't seen it myself (stock compared to modified). i'm actually really happy with the setup of my evo and i wonder how much difference that makes. the uprights, 8/12k springs, the big whiteline rsb and carbon hybrid front and rear diff with acd tune, car feels pretty good, at 360whp, only on 255s too.

 

Your Evo is modified. Why would you compare something stock to something modified?

 

because that was the tangent of this thread: i.e., not dealing with emissions by running a stock car that was faster than the evo.

 

My car only makes about 420whp. I'm sure even with a stock tune, 360whp, and simple suspension + wheels/tires it would out pace a similar Evo by a large margin.

Wouldn't surprise me. There's a ton of low RPM torque and 8 gears to choose from. If you are careful with the gas pedal, it can be a rocket. Otherwise it's a drift machine

 

With good tires and chassis setup you barely have to be careful with the throttle

 

I have no doubt. Mine is sill stock, but it sure is a lot of fun, that way.

 

I still don't understand what's so special about a Supra? A B58 + ZF 8 340i is a joke to me, but a Supra is an Evo rival? Less weight and dialed in handling, that's it, that's the magic? I could buy two Supras right now, but I think I'd still rather throw that money at my Evo all while fighting California police and CARB.

Supra looks like a midlife crisis, and I'd rather keep that sort of thing under wraps in a wingless Evo.

 

It's obviously not for you. Nothing wrong with that. Also expected seeing how this is an Evo forum, after all, and all the Evo love that goes along with it.

 

It might be for my wife though. Been trying to convince her for a while, good excuse for an automatic. I've watched all the Jackie Ding stuff, hell I'm even watching the 2021 Supra on Bring a Trailer in another tab right now. I'm still skeptical though.
