Next car to challenge Evo
at this rate don't you think by 2007-08 hp for all the cars will be around 400 450 stock. if competative automakers keep outdoing everybody hopefully we'll be heading in that direction. just something to think about. everything awd, turboed, supercharged and less than 2500lbs. good for us.
oh man as much as i'd love to see that... i don't think smog is going to be so forgiving unless everything performance goes hybrid. hehe that would be great tho, and the guy from mulholland racing would have nothing to complain about.

Second, even though rumors of breaking the gentlemen's agreement to limit HP in Japan have abounded, no one has actually listed a car with more HP. I know that several cars are already above the limit in reality, but I think that the copmpanies prefer the limit because if it was broken then your prediction might come true. That would force them to increase cost and thus price, which is how the 90's supercars were forced out of the American market. I doubt they want to see that happen again.

The Evo 8 is lighter and better balanced than the R34 GT-R. And in stock form, they are pretty evenly matched in terms of power. So the R34 hardly "eclipses" it on the track. But I'm talking about stock cars here. Obviously, you can push the RB26DETT to some massive power levels if you start modifying it. But even then, having all that power makes for a car that's tough to control and really tough on brakes and tires. That might be fine for sprint races, but not so fine for enduros.

all comes down to power to weight ratio and how u keep that power to the ground.. and lets not forget about handling.. even though the skyline is one hell of a car.. u cant under estimate the handling and power and weight that the evo has.

Probably the new 300hp 2005 Mustang GT the closest competition. You will see these mostly since the price range is 25K which fits most peoples income.
Most people in Subaru STi and Nissan 350s drive like they are only interested in the cars status. Mustang owners most likely to hate on the Evo.
The lotus will be to rare and like most other competition costs much more to obtain for the performance earned.

only thing with mustang is a lot of that power will be lost in drivetrain... and its only RWD and off the line times will not be as good they also don't put the suspension on or the other performance parts needed to hang with the evo...
I think the STi will for sure be closest competitor its priced just slightly higher but same range 28-33 as the evo and is AWD and had at least semi respectable suspension and cornering abilities.
as far as the other cars listed RX-7 I don't think is ever comming back the Lotus will be out of evo price range and is a completely different type of car... the S4 would be a competitor if its price were basically cut in half and the Supra I haven't heard anything that they were even going to bring it back here and if they do I would guess it would outprice the Evo as well.
