"* Mitsubishi does not have any automated web search system looking for Lancer Evolutions involved in race events. This is absolutely false."
No but they have a team of IT and Internet Gurus that are embedded in the Evolution"scene" taking notes..

And thousands of employees that are web saavy enough to see the post about the kid who "took his car to the track and spanked it like a hoar" and blew the clutch a week later "by accident" ..

Let's not be naive here and think that it is some kind of techno-mechanical robotical doodadamajigee snooping around automatically looking for warranty violaters.

Alert! Alert! Clutch abuser detected!! Danger Will Robinson, Danger!!

I'll believe it when I see it.
I printed it as well, not that it would hold up... but at least give me a piece of mind.

they do not have a team of people searching the web unless they are underpaid interns or highly skilled illegal immigrants.

searching for warranty violators is not worth paying someone $40k+ a year to do, it doesn't matter if you 'catch' a person a day.

you "catch" one engine falure a month and its worth paying someone to snoop

its at least $5k to replace one of those engines not counting labor. 5000 x 12 = $60,000.

Whats not worth it is having a large team of people doing this. But 1 or 2 wouldnt put a dent in mitsu.

Looking also does not require 40 hrs a week. Some current employee can easily spend a few minutes each day just looking around.. It's not out of the realm of possibility to have someone just look through and quickly look to see if anything matches up.

Yeah, right.

Like it has been said before, being embedded in the scene is no biggie. These employees are car nuts just like us who happen to lurk or may even post here..

Point is, it's not a "job description" or a "salaried position" per say..

It's just a faction of Mits that provides information to the higher ups about potential violations or red flags.

Mitsubishi is just very lucky that the comunity surrounding it is very friendly. From what I have seen the majority of owners arnt completly satisfied with there cars and most arn't satisfied with their customer service. I for one stay envolved with clubs simply on the fact that the community is generally friendly and that we all work togeather to resolve problems amungst ourselves.

But it doesn't deny that they do it mannually, meaning that anyone works for Mitsubishi could log on this forum and do a search easily.
Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing.

"Mitsubishi does not have any automated web search system looking for Lancer Evolutions involved in race events. This is absolutely false."
And not just these forums ... if you autocross your car all of the SCCA information is public. You could out all kinds of people within 15 minutes ... names, licenses plates, year models, etc ...

Here is how I’m sure it works. An Evo owner goes in to get some warranty work done … and the cars engine has blown up. So the service manager checks to see if the car has any mods that could have caused the problem … if it does they void the warranty and stick the owner with the bill (an easy out for them.)

If it doesn’t then they process the claim … which if over $500 requires the sign off of a district or regional manager. This a$$h0le *really* doesn’t want to have to take care of it … probably because his bonus is tied to not doing this kind of work. So he tries to find out if the car has ever been raced and does some checking on the SCCA website, Evolution boards, the persons name on the internet etc … basically looking for any reason to void.

I actually had no idea this kind of BS was going on when I bought the evolution. I had tons of mods on my Eclipse when I had it (this was before the internet) and I never thought twice about it. I never had any problems with the dealer, but nothing serious ever went wrong with the car. Now I am scared to install a boost gauge, and I'm constantly worried that the turbo timer (only mod) is going to cause problems at the dealer.
