better of to buy a used one or slightly damaged, if the frame is bent the car will never drive like new

Since you don't want a "mint" one, I say just buy a used one that's in running condition. Salvaged cars will have a lot of small issues that you won't notice wil after driving it around a while, such as leaking trunk, air noise coming through the doors, leaking doors, etc.

And that $8k in damage is just an estimate. It can go a lot higher if some things were overlooked. I'm sure they told you a figure on the low end to make the sale even more appealing.

It will always have a salvaged title no matter how good the repairs are and how well you fix it up. The frame rigidity and suspension are the Evo's highlights. You don't want an Evo that's not 100% in those areas. Maybe a purpose built drag car would be okay with repaired frame damage but not a track champ like the Evo.

The motor is always replaceable. I would look for a either blown engine/drivetrain, high mile Evo and then you don't have to worry about body work, suspension and frame worries and concentrate on rebuilding the engine to your HP needs. It will be cheaper in the long run especially not having a salvage title.

Never be a Horny buyer!!! Wait, the right car will come along soon (Damn sounds like a fortune cookie! )

A freind of mine runs a body shop in ft liquerdale, and he does great work, but advised me to never ever buy a car with frame damage unless you just want the parts!!!! Why do you think the guy whose selling dosn't get it fixed?

Ask others around who've had their Evo's smashed up what it has costed to fix them. If it was only 8K of damage, the insurance company wouldn't have totalled a 30K+ car. But, those who have had front-end only collisions, even minor ones, have been seeing repair numbers of over 12K I think. When you consider the frame repairs, the $1400 apiece HID lights, the huge FMIC and piping that is likely all screwed, the aluminum hood that hasn't got a chance of repair, things add up quickly.

Sounds like 8K for repairs is a little optimistic.

how long is it going to take for you to save the money to repair the smashed EVO? how long will it take for you to repair the EVO? will it be legal once you have done the repairs? was the engine/turbo damaged?

what im getting at is why not save up for a "resonable" second hand EVO? it will probaly take just as long to save and get a secondhand one as it would to buy the wreak and rebuild it!

just my thoughts mate and if you do go for it then all the best!

thanks Chris.

Dont buy it. Put that money down on a used one. Thats what I did. Paid about 27ooo. I pay about 280 a month. I dont even feel the payments. My car is modded and it goes fast and drives straight. I mean if you are buying the car and just putting parts on then its great. If you have to get the chassis straight ,you may be opening up a can of worms.

Since you are also in Mass, here are few things that you will have to do to get that car back to the street. Car has to have a salvage reparable title on it as first. If it has owner retained one, it can be fixed, but you can never have insurance collision on it, ever!

Now you have to fix the car. Have in mind that there are not that many used parts available for the EVO, so most of them (unless you buy another parts only car) you will have to buy new. One thing to remember! For every part you buy, have a receipt for it. And as the most important thing, for every used part you have to have a VIN number of the car from where the part came from. If you don’t have those, you will not pass salvage inspection, which is one of the requirements for the final registration.

I just went through the all that for my other car and if was a pain in the neck to say at least. You will have to tow your car to the inspection site, which is just another one of those little things that makes the whole deal less desirable.

Good luck!

Frame damaged..............forget it. The car will not handle right and it will cost alot to align it and even then it won't handle like the original.
