yea so i took my tranny (evo 8) to these guys at the shop to replace the clutch and the synchros. apparently they needed a 3rd gear and they charged like 1500 for a new one. thats retarded. so i looked on craigslist, bought a new tranny for evo 9 and they put a new clutch in and threw it in the car. now it wont go into gear. and seeing as i dont have money to pay them to take the tranny out i will bring the car home and take the tranny out myself. does ANYONE have any schematics of the tranny or tips on how to take it out?! ive never done this before, but i cant afford to have someone else do it :/ HELP!!!

wow, should have saved yourself some money and heartache and sent it to shep or tre. Does the IX tranny even work with an VIII seems it wouldnt... Its a pain in the butt to get the tranny out. But look in the how to section or do a search in the drivetrain forum.

I would check to ensure they hooked up the shift linkages correctly. Also, make sure the clutch is seated with the lock ring. Not to sound crazy but you didn't by chance swap in a 6 speed instead of a 5?

 

Oh an you are looking at a good 6+ hours to do the swap it in your home garage.

 

Yes, you have a lot of work to do. Have a friend or several friends that are somewhat mechanically inclined to help you out. It's a pita for real but just follow the guides closely and don't screw up!

 

nope its still a 5 speed. it should fit into the evo 8 even if its a 9 tranny i checked for the bolt patterns and they fit. thanks for the help. i hate it when u take it to some shop specializing in trannys and then theyre like oh ummm yea i have no idea wahts going on then you come in and tell them and just make them feel like sh*t. cuz they prlly havent done evo tranny swaps.
