I'm very interested in running something very similar, that's why I asked.

That would be awesome of you if you could put up some pictures.

Hey Golgo, why would you not just use the OMG filter like we have discussed previously. It flows great and the stealth mod isolates the filter from the under hood temps. I have run an open filter(Perrin) with the snorkle just sitting there and there was no noticeable difference than without the snorkle. Not to mention you are back to square one with sucking in under hood hot air and no stealth benefit. Just my .02

In both cases I'll be using the stock air box 100%

I'm going to hack up a used SAMCO tube and see if I can get a PERRIN filter to fit under the box, since the stock PERRIN tube is too long.

Once that happens, I plan on doing back to back testing @ GST between the OMG and the PERRIN filter on the SAMCO tube.

In a previous post I described how the Perrin will not work. My samco hose could not be trimmed any more on the MAS end or the MAS would not fit any longer. The hose begins to taper. The Perrin is considerably taller than the OMG. I was not willing to take the chance of trimming any off the compressor side of the tube because there is not much "meat" there to make a good connection if you trim some off. I would not waste my time unless you are willing to sacrifice your samco hose to find out the hard way. By the way your dyno testing may not reflect real world conditions especially considering nature the parts being tested.

I might add something I said before in a previous post in this thread is that if you move the MAS far enough towards the passenger side of the car for the Perrin to fit your MAS wiring harness will not reach. This would be the main reason the Perrin would be out of the question unless that is if you are so inclined to try to extend the connector wiring. Would seem like way too much hassle for little if any benefit.

Will you be doing this on a stock tune? If your car is tuned for a specific intake it may skew the results. Just throwing that out there since I saw another post comparing a bunch of different intakes on the dyno but they overlooked the fact that the filter that made the highest numbers was what the car was tuned for with in the first place.

My goal is to see which set-up is going to net me the most gains back to back with the parts on my car.

That means re-dyno tune with each piece to see how they perform.

I plan on it, but that might be months away.

Does anyone else find this to be a tight fit with the SpeedElement filter?

It's a pretty tight fit and I'm using a samco hose that I have trimmed a little. You might consider doing that or if you are using an intake pipe that you can't trim try using a dremmel and cut away some of the plastic on the inside of the box to gain a little room.

How ironic. I must have subconsciously remembered reading about this long ago. I was going to go with the OMG in hacked stock airbox, then rememberd the good results from the Perrin, ordered one thinking I might be able to make it fit, and now read this haha.
Golgo, what have you found works best for you since?
