I had the galant HVAC for a while. The main thing is that you can't fully remove the factory one. I clamped the wiring from the galant to the factory one, but never got the AC on/off button to work correctly. If the blower motor was on, so was the compressor. I had to do some extensive reading of the wiring diagram for the galant to do this. I ended up building my own HVAC relocation bezel and using the factory HVAC controls

I have done the swap, with every single function working, including AC button, defrost, and even max AC. If you have questions just PM me, but I can't do all the work for you.

Would be nice if someone could do a detailed write up on this.

I'm considering doing a detailed write-up, but the problem is I didn't take good enough pictures when I was doing it myself, and it's been so long I am afraid I'll forget to include a step. I'd basically need to do it again so that I can be sure I did everything right, take better pictures, and be able to test that it works, right here at home.

Maybe the next guy that does this can take some pics and make a simple wire diagram with instructions. I have already re-located mine using an Orbital kit but I was considering this method before I found the kit thats no longer made. I think the Galant HVAC looks better IMO.

I think it looks much better too. What bothers me about the Orbital kit is the finish is supposed to be different on their piece than the dash and the piece will stand out, and that the dials look too big for the space they have down there. I think in general the Galant controls look better than our cars' to begin with. I may just build another one, but I'm not positive about it. I'll have to see.

Hard to tell with mine.

The factory DIN bezels are shiney black or silver and they don't have the hood over the top so I have to give that to Orbital. The HVAC controls look factory to me.

I don't have firsthand experience with the Orbital unit, so my impressions which are gotten from others on the Internet may well be wrong. You also have a black interior (which looks great BTW), and I have a grey one. That may also make a bigger difference. In any case, I don't exactly recommend the swap to anyone who wants an easy solution. Easy would be cutting the old bezel to fit the RRK, and if you are really ambitious maybe even painting it all. I think if I were doing it again I'd opt to reuse the factory uni, but at the time the look of the Galant unit appealed to me enough to attempt the swap.
