Adjustable Cam Gears

Ok, someone explain to me why you would need to adjust your cam gears (aftermarket). What settings do what and what is the purpose of adjustment. Thanks!

You are mechanically advancing or retarding the valve openings and overlap. This is a tuners game here Vishnu recomends -5/-5 for up top on the stage 1 and -2/-2 for stage 1 cammed cars. You need to know what your doing here as you can leave the valve open during compression and clank the piston. or damage the valve if firing on an unseated valve- Bla bla bla lotsa bad stuff

So someone wishing to play around with this on stock cams is a bad idea.

But buying lighter cam gears will help reduce the rotation mass effectively creating more HP?

To properly tune when the Exhaust and intake valves open and close as well as which point in the combustion cycle the air exits and leaves the chamber- Your pissing me off

Most people use cam gears to tune after market cams. Factory cams could be tunned and you could gain more power, but I have not heard of anyone putting them on because their lighter. Although you make a good point, the gain from them being lighter would probable not be significant and your better off spending the money on a different mod, that is eaiser to install.
