Loud stock BOV?
After installation of an AEM short ram intake system I have noticed that the stock BOV became EXTREMELY loud...is this normal?
I realize that with an open air intake you should be able to hear the BOV...but I was not aware that there would be such a dramatic difference, so I am just wondering if this is common or a cause for concern? Any information you could give me would be appreciated!!
This is normal. The turbo whine becomes much more noticable as well. If you don't have an intake and want the loud BOV and turbo whine, you can just ride around with the top of the airbox off. Tho, this has its obvious risks. I haven't had mine on since i bought the car, no problems. Ghetto, yes. But FREE.

Tests have shown that the stock intake does just as good as an aftermarket intake. The best bang for your buck is just drop an K&N filter in the stock box. The aftermarket intake basically makes the turbo and BOV sound louder....and possible DECREASES performance. For pete's sake, look at the design for the stock airbox....can you get any better? Its almost ram-air with the design. Sure the stock filter is restrictive, but drop a K&N in there (which have been proven to give 8-10whp alone) and you are set.
Personally, the only time I have seen a need for an aftermarket cone-type filter is in super high-performance applications....otherwise the stock airbox is more than sufficient.

Where did you get the 8-10hp improvement numbers from with just a dropin K&N air filter? Also you guys that run with out the filter lid on, how are you guys securing it so that it doesn't move around. Sounds like a bad idea for long term use.
