I'm about to do another evo clutch install. Well this time its not an MR, but rather my ix.

My buddies MR we used royal purple, don't remember the exact kind, anyways?

What kind of tranny fluid should I replace when doing this. It is 14K miles, so it is due for a 15K fluid change.

What royal purpal weight you guys used or have used.

I wanna use something thing, with a little bit of extra weight , kind of a mix between the two if you know what I mean..

Thanks in advance.

Please do yourself a favor and stick with the oem fluids. The Super Diaqueen 75-85 weight fluid was designed for the weaker internals of the 6 speed. It's loaded with protective additives and consequently is a great choice for the Mitsu 5 speed.

are you using an ACT flywheel? when i used mine i thought the screech was comi9ng from the starter, but was in fact the aftermarket flywheel barely contacting the inspection cover. try taking the inspection cover off and then start it, i bet the noise goes away.

Nobody sees an issue with running without the flywheel cover? It surprises me that a flywheel with such clearance issues has been released to the public.

Well I checked the inspection cover & both the teeth on the starter and flywheel look perfect. the inspection cover is out of the way too... I think its that flywheel cover up on the top scraping cause my teeth look fine and there is no hesitation when starting.

that flywheel cover did get bent up when taking it off and all the prying. I used a hammer to get it mostly flat but i guess not enough... So for others i would rec if its bent dont use it

You don't run the inspection cover? I seen a EVO i did a clutch on come in without this cover. The last clutch was done like 15k ago on that car and the only thing I could say is that it was a lot cleaner than normal inside the tranny case. I guess it got a little washed out or something without that cover.

yeah, i don't run it. it's probrably cleaner inside because all the dust created in there has a large escape route. the only thing it could hurt is if a rock shot up into your clutch assembly, but with the flywheel spinning as fast as it does, it would probrably deflect all comers.

I'm having trouble getting the release bearing to pop out. I didn't know about this when I was pulling everything apart, so I unbolted and pulled on the trans, and couldn't get it to come off. That's when I stumbled across this thread, and I still can't seem to get the release bearing to come off. Are there any tips/tricks to getting this thing to let go?

Thanks,

Dave

I feel ya man, this is probably the most confusing thing to a first time clutch installer on an evo. You have to pry between the Throw out bearing and the wedge collar while moving the clutch fork around to get that thing loose. here is a writeup on it.

your on step number 21
