Motor flush? Any ever used it?

Has anyone here ever used a motor flush product? If so, do they work and what is the best one to use?

I've only tried the Amsoil flush, usually before I switch to Synthetic on a used car.

How did it work? My Evo has 83k on it and the oil is black in a few hundred miles right after an oil change. I want to flush it and make it happy again!

I wouldn't worry about it - it's doing it's job cleaning that's why it's dark already. I probably wouldn't run an engine flush on your Evo but you can do as you wish. Just keep putting good oil in it

I heard this stuff can ruin gaskets and will amplify oil leaks.

The actual motor flush will NOT ruin a gasket. It will make oil leaks worse alot of times. But thats not really its fault.
It causes these things because the leaks were there already. It just removes the gunk that was most likely blocking the leak so it wasn't so bad. When that gunk is gone it will then leak more.

If you do a motor flush and you do it correctly you will be very surprised what kind of gunk will come out. If you then have leaks just fix them. You just found problem areas that were going to be worse later on.

It is amazing how nasty these things get inside when people don't take care of them.

If you don't want to do a strong motor flush you can always use sea foam. Just make sure you read the directions and follow them closely.
It does miracles on cleaning up the inside of your motor. Just be prepared for a smokey neighborhood.

I 2nd the smokey neighborhood. We perform a comparative seafoam service at work and it gets pretty cloudy in the lot on cars that need it bad.

I have never really liked the idea of the motor flushes. Seafoam on the other hand does magical things for lifter tick.
