DIY COP Coil On Plug Setup
#31
For the second set I wired them a bit different. I'm not going to change the write-up because this requires soldering and I know not everyone has a soldering iron / knows how / etc., etc. As long as they are wired correctly, it doesn't really matter how you set them up
On this one I chose to split the wires in-line as opposed to in the connector that plugs into the factory harness. I wanted to do this to use the grommets that come with the connectors (which you can't do with two wires in each connector) and just for the heck of it to try something new. I haven't sleeved any of it yet but you can see how it will work in the end. The connectors are grey because they're ones that I bought used from a member on the forums
Finished Result:
I ended up painting this plate with VHT Wrinkle Black spray paint I picked up from NAPA just to see how it'd turn out. I should have not been lazy and sand the plate / prep it before spraying because while it sticks well, you can scratch it off fairly easily. The stuff is weird, it's not like normal paint. It feels rubbery to the touch like it's still curing almost (36 hours after painting it). It looks great, I'm just not sure how well it'll hold up if you plan on taking it off and on much. With black connectors and all black cabling it would make it look pretty bad-*** though!

Just finished up mine using 02240's. I hardwired mine in instead of using the connectors on either end. Car runs and drives noticeably better, initial startup was very smooth! Total cost was $80 canadian. I ended up using a 1/4 aluminum plate, I couldnt find what thickness anyone used, stretched the springs a bit and no issues. Thank you for the awesome writeup and info. Merry Christmas!
