Gauge Cluster Bulb Replacement

Here's a quick tutorial on how to swap out your blown out cluster bulbs.

In my case the fuel and temp gauge bulbs were out.

Cluster In Question:

First remove the shroud, two Phillips screws(red arrows) and then pull bottom to you and the the top toward you and out.

You will then have access to the three screws(red circles) that hold the cluster in place. To remove cluster you want to tilt the bottom of the cluster up and towards yourself while pulling the left side out towards yourself(note: you may have to pop the ACD panel piece out to gain enough room)

With the cluster out you can disconnect the two harness plugs going to the back of the cluster. There is a single lock tab in the middle of each plug, push in and wiggle it out. You can see the two plugs here.

With the cluster out flip it over and you can see all the bulbs. You can remove the bulbs from here but may need a pair of pliers. I chose to remove the back panel allowing me to see the circuit board and remove bulbs with my hands, To remove the back panel you just need to remove the crews circles in red and pull the board from the pegs circled in blue.

With the back cover off I have acess to all the bulbs, I pulled out the middle bulb all the way to the right in the center to replace it with a new one and be able to see my fuel at night.
The new bulbs come with a white gel cap over the bulb and limites brightness, I chose to remove said cap and do the same for the other 2 bulbs.

To install just follow the reverse procedure. This took me about 20-30 minutes total.

Hope this helps anyone looking to replace the bulbs in their cluster.

With years and miles these bulbs become very fragile. After you've pulled and replaced the cluster to replace one bulb don't be surprised when you find you now have another out.

Thanks for the guide OP, saved me time and few bucks and I enjoyed the learning process. Just replaced the cluster bulbs on my Evo 9. The previous owner had soldered in red LEDs and although it was bright, I didn't like the patchy uneven light behind the clusters.

Thought I'd add in some info which hasn't made it to the forums yet:

For the warning gauge bulbs, it's quite straightforward - just get part number MR444536. The base is black, the bulb is quite small and it does not come with a condom.

For the main speedo, tacho and fuel/temp gauges (3 main bulbs) - get MR444537. It is larger than the warning gauge bulbs, comes in a blue base and a blue condom. There is a similar bulb out there (8180A001) that has a GREY base and comes with a white condom. Similar to what OP has in his photos. Do not get the grey one (8180A001). Both are the same size but the difference is that GREY one is 1.8W and the BLUE one is 3W (https://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/lanc...o=CT9A-0404784). I have tried both (with condom on and off) and the BLUE one without the condom is by far the brightest.

While replacing my bulbs, I noticed I had a few missing warning gauge bulbs as well. I was concerned that I had been driving around not knowing if there were warning lights triggered but not turned on because of the missing bulbs. I checked each bulb's placement behind their respective "icons" and there are some that are not in use. Refer to this thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...lacemnmet.html
