Quote: thanks for the lecture...now try going back and reading...i was commenting on the guy that said stereotypes are bad and then at the end had to throw in "HONDA SUCKS"...if you look closely you will see that it is a quote in my reply....i actually like most hondas and have a few friends with hondas (one that is faster than my evo but FWD owns him)...

but thanks for playing anyways...keep up the good work
wasn't a lecture first of all. Didn't teach anything. It was a question how "honda sucks?" If you read closely, you will see a question mark. what do you mean by "thanks for playing anyways?" I was playing game??????

ok ... here's a suggestion ...

Take a breath and L-A-U-G-H! just do it ... you'll feel much better.

You're lucky you weren't hurt ... and regardless of all the pessimistic people here, the EVO IS very repairable (and in fact mine was 'repaired' on a laser frame straightener BETTER than stock ... Yes my chassis is straight to plus minus 0.001inch and STOCK is plus minus 0.005 we have a VERY meticulus shop where I live ).

Use this as an opportunity to l-e-a-r-n something. Most of us (myself included) have had a few years of driving experience, yet lack the skill called 'refresher.'

Take some of that 'extra' monies (I hope you have some still) and have fun with the MR on a controlled race-track / track school. That means NOT a drag strip, r-a-c-e-t-r-a-c-k, like driving corners and stuffages. That way you'll begin to feel the dynamics of what the EVO is capable of.

All of us have a feeling of invincibility when we drive something as capable as the EVO. I remember a friend that has over 250k miles on sportbikes, touring and such. One day, he goosed his liter twin and promptly spun out and fell over. A few scratches, a little paint, and the bike was good as new, but the good part was that his wife (who rides a SuperHawk) pulled up to him and said, "Now that that's over, we can get on with some 'real' riding." It was very apropo ...

Keep trying to become a better driver EVERY single day of your life. Pick one thing and only one thing to work on each day. One day, practise hitting every apex just right, the next day, smooth steering inputs, the next day, good headturns, the next day, good braking, the next day, smooth throttle out of corners. You'd be surprised how much more comfortable and profecient you become over very short periods of time.

Good Luck,

Cheers,

jcnel.

Poor kid ! He'll be OK

Stop busting on him - when I was that age I would have crashed that MR 5 times worse for sure. I dont know where my brains where back then but they must have not been in my head.

Give him a break I say - we all had those stupid moments when we were that age.

He cant help it if his Mommy loves him and wants to buy him a fast car

He came out and admitted his mistake. That takes a lot, especially from a kid at 19. I am glad he is ok. Usually, I am the type of person that thinks "less stupid people, better world". But it seems that he learned from his mistake and I am hoping he will be more careful next time. So I really respect him for admitting his mistake here.

heres another one too... for my sixteenth my parents got me a 01 galant...two weeks later wasting my time with a civic i totalled it smashing a median head on, knocking over a Homebuilders sign onto another civic (rofl)...basically i was shaking in the ambulance because i was petrified. I learned a huge lesson and don't take driving for granted. Most important is experience. You need experience with speed because there is a lot more to it than most realize.

For the guy who crashed that MR, be safe man and remember your dad first of all, he doesn't want you up there with him quiet yet.. and sign up for some driving school it helps

i found this on one of your archived posts 2 months ago:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=95531

in which u stated that, "so since i already read throughout the forum, i know this car is really quick, so i am going to be extra careful. but i will still have a little fun with it on the highway at high speed (where i live is a small village, so barely any cops around)."

1. you had the intention of having a little fun with it on the highway at high speed.
2. small village, no cops around = easy to drive fast.
3. deers are mostly found at hills and mountain side road. you must have been trying to reach your limits at a road where there are not that many cops and cars.

sorry to hear what happened.

you also said that " First car is a really slow automatic 94 eclipse... but it was my car to practice my daily driving with. Second, got rid of the eclipse and the one I have right now is a 3rd gen honda prelude, 5 speed ofcourse... did a jdm b20a swap myself, no vtec... and it kills honda civic w/ b16 and vtec." how long have u been driving those two cars? if u have been driving those, especially the prelude for at least 3 months each, u should be a experienced driver already..

bottom line, im really sorry to hear what happened to you. hope u be more careful next time.

/Agreed, I do not know this guy and I am not in anyway of defending him on this thread. I just want to point out it's very possible to lose control at 45mph even in AWD car. Why?
-Brake=weight shifting to the front evo is not a 50/50 weight ratio car I believe it's 55/45 or 60/40 I can't remember(more weight at the front). Then brake harder=more weight shift to the front=oversteering.

-Advan046 is summer tires although the traction for wet is not that bad at all but if it's not properly warmed up(from the pic where the guy live seem cold. I live in california)=won't grip as good.

-Tires pressure setting for the evo. I am not sure about the MR but standard evo setting is 32psi to the front and 28 to rear. That's a oversteering setting. Preferred by FF and AWD/ cars in competitions. More pressure=more grip that's why you see high hp RWD cars with bigger tires at the back (front=traction , rear=stability.) Or they would go 29 psi at the front and 32 psi for the back.

-Front LSD in the MR. When the car start to corner, one side start to spin faster than the other(understeering)the LSD will make the wheels spin at the same speed(neutral) but in his case oversteering. Also I dunno which ACD setting you had in the car when u were driving.

-I don't know if you step on the clutch when you were braking but if u did then the rpm drop=less traction. Plus u were in 4th gear which mean ur rpm were probably somewhere around 3k-3.5k.

about the guy talked about his stock RSX type S. FF cars often head into two siuations. GRIP or UNDERSTEER. They hardly oversteer. Even if you pull handbrake in a FF in wet surface without a LSD the damn thing won't even spin without you stepping on the gas at the same time. Plus the OEM tires on the RSX
Michelin Pilot HX MXM4. I think they are all reason tires.

Next time if you head into this kind of siuation You should step a little on gas and countersteer. If you think you are not able save it. Step on the clutch the car will spin in a circle instead spinning to the side(of course if u r travling at high speed this shiet won't help u much). Also don't keep your car's RPM too low in rain/snow always keep it around 4-4.5k. Increase tire pressures in rain will help you grip better too(6-9 psi). Cuz when the tires is cold it doesn't expand as good as when it's in dry surface. Air is like liquid it expands as the temp go up.

About improving your driving. Aside from going to a private parking lot, driving instructors, autox. You can start in the PS2 game Grand Turismo3. Take the license tests. Get all gold in license B, A, and at least all silver in International B, Rally and brozen in International A. Get super license if you think are r up for it. Aside from the G-force diff in real life. What GT3 tell u is pretty realistic. You will have a good CONCEPT of how you should handle cars/apply them to real life experiences after you finish all those courses.(I finished all the courses in gold except super license that shiet is hard!). Also racing with simulation tires and traction control/ASM off plus a steering wheel will enhance the realistic feel too(p.s I am telling u to learn the driving concept not get used to how the car handle like in the game). After this you can go fock around in real car in a safe area and have a taste of extreme cornering g-force (or go play SixFlags all day)

From the pictures, I have to say your car's damage isn't too bad at all. I have seen much worse crashes from the canyon. To the dude say about less hp=more safe =totally wrong. I saw a 85 corolla SR5 rolled off the cliff . That thing only had 7XHP and can't top over 70mph probably(redlining 5th). I think it's gonna take a good while until you will have your car out of the shop .My friend who once hitted a deer(small one) on the canyon when he was traveling downhill around 55 mph(with a lower del sol). There was nothing he could do but hit the damn Bambi . then Bambi just bounce/flew off to the side(by the impact). He had no damage at all except a patch of deer fur left on his hood later . So maybe next time you might want to consider hitting that sucker if you had no other choices Just don't feel too bad about this since there were no physical injures. Just learn from ya mistake . Also if you want to improve your driving I sugguest you start with a FF car(not drag). Since that's the easiest car to master. After that you can start on AWD/MR then RWD(being the hardest) if you plan on getting one that is. Good Luck!

P.S plz ignore all grammar/spelling errors since this is a long *** reply. thx

For those of you bustin this kids chops about the wreck and that he had the car bought for him in remeberance of his dad. Why don't you ask him which he would rather have, the car. or his dad back. Think about that one for a sec.

Never EVER EVER EVER EVER break mid-turn (unless of course you know how to control lift-throttle oversteer), then go ahead.

45mph and light braking? MMMmm I don't think so. You had to be going faster.

I am a year older than you, but I have (not to gloat) done 20+ HPDE's. Please learn how to drive your car and be responsible. If any money is left over, take your car to a road course and work on your driving. I know there are an infinite number of factors that can cause a crash on the road, but learning how to drive your car ALSO helps you avoid such situations and lessens the number of variables that could cause a crash.

Anyhow, it is most important that you are okay. Drive safely and learn from your mistakes.

Ok this is getting a bit out of hand. First off it is horrible that he lost his dad and especially to cancer but buying a $40,000 weapon to remember your dad?! Get real, if it was 2 weeks after my father passed away I wouldn't be thinking about the money he left me and spending $40,000 of it on an EVO. Yeah you want to move on with your life and maybe buying an evo would get his mind off his dad but dropping that amount of cash on a car at 19 years old is not something my dad would want me to do.

Your dad was looking down on you that day and he either saved you from more injury or was trying to tell you something, so I hope you learn from this experience.
