Is there a hood out there without the silly hole in it yet?

Please go troll elsewhere.

So far this thread is full of people telling me it's too hot. I'd like some solid evidence to back this claim up, because I don't think there is a single person in this thread that can do it.

There are many ways to increase air flow through the engine compartment. You just gotta think outside the box a lil

To the helpful people, thanks much! Anyone got any shots of the lancers hoods? IIRC, I remember the grille being attached.

I would tend to agree with the temp problems if you don't do something to help airflow. I do also think that it will be difficult to get the same amount of airflow without hoodvents of some kind. With that said, I'm sure with proper thought/mods, you can keep it cool under there. As far as seeing a hood without any vents...I haven't, so good luck and I'd like to hear how it goes if you do end up going this route.

Troll.. hahaha. You are talking about removing the cooling vent for your intercooler. Do me a favor.. go drive hard at night... then come home.. park your car and look at the HEAT coming out of that vent. While you are moving.. that heat is able to escape via that vent and keep things cool. Simple physics... PV=nRT. Basically as you pressurize the intake (via turbo), you need to cool it to retain the amount of molecules per volume (hence the intercooler).. this vent allows air to flow pas the intercooler. You take out the cooling of the vent.. you get high Temp.. less density of air molecules... less oxygen equals less power.

Get a grip. Add your stickers... and your whack body kit.. but don't be a fool and change functional elements.

Further... any mod that doesn't make the car faster or improve it's functionality is a stupid mod in my opinion. Making a mod that reduces the car's performance makes you stupid.

Well, I will offer some input as I have been around DSMs for a good while and own an EVO. The difference with DSMs and the EVO is the EVOs engine bay is very tightly packed. If you remember the RX-7 FD3S, the main problem with those cars was the engine bay was VERY cramped with ****ty hoses and a bad radiator. This caused big big problems. The EVO engine bay is also very cramped compared to the setup on DSMs. I will try to get some shots to display this, but since I dont have access to the DSM at the moment I can't.

When the bay is cramped, lots of heat is generated, and that would mean certain death for this car. Do I think there are ways around it? Sure, a new radiator would help, also I think with the proper cooling it could be done, but I wouldn't risk it. Perhaps if you got some type of plumbing system to reroute the heat out of the side of the car or something, that would work, but I imagine the work that needed to be done to make this car as efficient with the vent would not be worth it.

Yes there are hoods without the vent and it's possible if you can track them down. I can't believe some of the posts in this thread. Have you ever heard of the JDM Lancer Evolution VII GT-A???

This car has nearly the same performance numbers, just you lose some of the power in the semi-auto transmission. There are no significant heat problems. Most of the posts in this thread are ignorant thinking that the vent is essentially vital. It helps cool the engine down when you're doing laps, and day-to-day usage probably does extend engine life by a VERY small margin, but Mitsubishi themselves manufactured this car without the vent for a mass-produced car sold for everyday use and most of you will never know the difference. The actual functionality or neccesity of the vent is highly debatable under everyday driving conditions. The intercooler and rad do most of the work.

I like the clean look, great for sleeping, kids won't pour drinks into the vent, into your engine, etc. Then you just need to find an Evo VII bumper or aftermarket VII designed bumper.

I'm still quite frankly amazed by how awesome and clean the VII looks with it's hidden and flush hood vents and Mitsubishi really would have sold more cars to a wider range of consumers given it's more mature and luxury-performance look.

The heat generated by the engine bay will not affect anything beyond the cool-down and warm up of the engine itself. WIth an upgraded radiator it would be no problem I would assume.

If you guys think the 4G63 gets too hot for going without a vented hood.... Go find pictures of a 300zx Twin Turbo Engine bay. 100% LEss room, 100% less hood clearance, 2x the turbos, and ZERO vents.

The only real issue with doing this, is the fact that all of the rubber pieces and connectors in your engine bay will get very brittle in alot less time, and be more succeptable to corrosion when compared to a car with a vented hood.

man....that looks sweet.....ventless looks cleaner....good observations...it does look a bit more mature....and less "young"...(for lack of a better term). The GT-A is kinda like what Subaru did with their new Legacy to hit the older crowd. I would do this conversion if I could afford it....

I can see why at times it is hard to even ask a simple question on here without gettin' bashed...so many different views and opinions cause for alot off-topic tangents.........

but here's my .02, Bolsen.........no vent = .......

as the orignal poster, i do like the clean look with no "protruding" vents. If they kept the flush vents of the EVO7 that would be nice!
