Nope, it\'s a decent radio. I rather put $ in mods.

oh well thanks anyways guys, i got all that crap in, and well it sounds ok, about the same..hehe oh well no more paper cones i dont guess., circuit city's install shop just gave me some 6-1/2 oversize adapters to make them work and they worked excellent, had to go all over town to find screws and all, but they are in and working. Now what sucks is i found a screw in my front driver tire while we were installing this junk.

in your case i would go with the Alpine CDA-9835. it's a best non A/V unit they make. here's my setup in the '03:

Pioneer deh p9400mp cd deck
Niche Audio ns 6.5c components (front only)
Rockford Fosgate p3 12"
Sony xm2200gtx 2 ch amp (200 watts continuous)
Majestic Audio ma1620a mono amp (670 watts continuous)

i did have to make brackets to fit my 6 1/2's in the doors since the hole is EURO-DIN (7") & also cuz the new speakers were so deep that my windows wouldn't roll down!

I replaced my factory speakers on my non-SSL Evo and it is a lot clearer with a aftermarket deck but less bass than with the stock paper ones.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there any way to get more bass with aftermarket 6.5s than the stock ones?

a couple things to consider.
(1) the stock speakers are 6 3/4 so they are bigger
(2) your new speaker probably require more power to run as well or better then your stock ones. So next up you'll want a better headunit that puts out more power.
