Bad tint - how to handle it?
Bad tint - how to handle it?
I had my windows tinted early this week by a well-known, respectable shop that was recommended to me by a few friends. They did a great job on the sides, but a really crappy job on the rear. There are a number of bubbles all over the place and it's adhering really inconsistently to the dot matrix. It's fine in most places and then there's a 6" strip where you can actually see the tint curving back away from the bottom of the windshield. They also reinstalled my rear wiper backwards, so that it would rotate downward to the trunk instead of up across the windshield. The bubbles are air, not alcohol, and they're not going to just dry up.
Anyway, I brought it back first thing the next morning to get the wiper fixed (I didn't realize how easy it was - pop off the cover, unscrew the nut). I asked about the bubbles and the dot matrix and the guy told me to bring it back in a week when it's dry and they'll work on it. I'm not confident that they'll be able to get the bubbles out after a week.
This is the first tint I've ever gotten and I'm not sure how to deal with this. I mean, if I buy a crappy product, I take it back and say, "This is crap, I want my money back," but how do you deal with a crappy tint? Please, no "rip the tint off, wrap it around a brick, and throw it through their front window."
If you have experience dealing with a bad tint job, how did you deal with it? What should I expect next week, what do I have the right to demand, and what kind of results should I expect in the end? I know perfection is impossible, and I've heard some sort of "If it looks ok from x feet away, it's a good tint" rule of thumb, but how good should I expect? Did your tint shops succeed in getting the tint to adhere to the dot matrix at the bottom of your rear windshields?
I really don't think pics are necessary, but if you really, really think they are, I can get some after work today.

If you know anything about tinting the bubbles will be there for a week or so until they dry off in between.
Do as they say and wait a week or two of hot weather and see how the bubbles look. It's the solution they use so the tint doesn't stick, it will evaporate over time.

If he knows anything about tinting? Stop flaming the guy, he's asking for help.
Peeling is not going to go away with time. Yes, the bubbling will subside, but if you feel that it's bad enough to go back, then have them lay new film on the rear window.
Otherwise wait a week and see if it gets better, if not, take it in. I had a tint job done that resulted in peeling after 3 weeks, I took it back in and they retinted without giving me any crap.

The bubbles will usually go away in about a week or so if you let the car sit out in the sun. Some tint jobs comes with bubbles. Usually it's not the product of tint they use when it comes to bubbles, it's experience. My tint guy did a real nice job on my car and no bubbles.
If you're not satisfied with your rear tint I'm sure they'll be able to just redo the job.

If the bubbles do end up going away but come back with time, most of the "name brand" tint manufacturers carry a lifetime warranty against peeling or bubbling. What kind of film is it? As for the dot matrix, that's the problem with tinting over dot matrix, is that it's hard to get the tint to look good on the whole dotted surface since it's an uneven surface. Mustangs are bad for this because the whole area around the rear window and the front windshield are all dot matrix, and they usually come out looking kinda rough.
give it a week or two. i waited a month till i rolled down my newly tinted window before. leave it under the sun. if its still there, take it back, they should have lifetime warranty if bubbles starts coming out.

give it a week as they said, if it still bubbles then bring it to them. and after the new tint if their is still problems i would suggest trying somewhere else. samething happen to me and im not gonna bother going over to the same place now i prefer to just bring it to a good shop and have it done correctly the first time.
Definitely give it a week -- if there's still significant bubbles, take it back and make sure they fix it.
I'd have my guard up at this point though -- the fact that they can't install a rear windshield wiper properly really makes me question their professionalism.
Does this tint job come with a money back guarantee?
