Strange paint chips

The past 2 times I wash my car I notice on the driver side rear section between the back door and the wheel well (lower C pillared) there are 2 big paint chips where the metal shows through and lots of little tinny chips around it. What puzzle me is the other side (passenger side) lower C pillared section has no chip at all. Anyone has the same problem?

The door on the side with no chips is proud of the pillar....and the side with the chips the door sits lower than the chipped area.......am I correct?

?????

It is the lower section of the C pillared the thin frame piece near the kick plate area of the rear passenger door. Between the rear door and the rear wheel well.

My paint has been getting hammered in that particular spot too (driver's side only too). Outside of one other chip on the hood, those are the only chips I have that I am aware of. Seems sort of odd, but I'm not sure what to do about it. I did touch it up with the touch-up paint in a bottle. Went a little heavy on it in hopes of armoring that spot a little...

Do you happen to have a whistling noise from the driver side window when going above 65 mph?

About the chips Hanzo is referring to...
This was mentioned by Rhys Millen at a recent meet, so it appears to be a common area for EVO to develope chips. It does seem awkward, but it's totally possible for it to take a beating by rocks. Those with chips have the proof. Rhys had some 3M clear bra film over one of the EVOs and we couldn't even see it until he pointed it out. It has done a decent job of preventing paint chips on that particular car. You can buy some of this film and apply it in that particular area to prevent chips...

Can someone please post a photo of the area in question. I don't have any rock chips and I would like to avoid then if at all possible. The 3M is a really good solution when installed properly.

I have the exact same problem: driver's side. I noticed it after I went and had some fun on a gravel road ;-)

I have chips also. Driver side only...in the exact same spot. I haven't been in any gravel either. I am going to make an appointment to have it checked and possibly have the entire area (back door jam..driver side repainted). The paint just looks real thin in that area.

My car has the same chips. We see it an rally cars when the door is adjusted in just a little to far. Rocks from the front wheels 'catch' on the exposed lip rather than glancing off the door. You can easily see where the drivers door on my car sits in that tiny little bit compared to the other side.

I took it to my dealer and they called the the Mitsubishi tech line and were told that the doors cannot be adjusted. They would send it to a body shop and have the door 'bent' out a bit and touch up the chips but would not pay for repainting that area - wear and tear, no warranty. I see it otherwise and have meant to call Mitsu's customer care line but haven't gotten around to it.

I've seen them on every Evo I've looked at that's been on the road for a bit. (that's only 5 cars, but a 100% paint-chip ratio)

Always very low on the drivers side rear fender between the door and the wheel well opening. Oh, and mine has them too.
