Cool panning! Drop the shutter speed a bit more to get the whole wheeled blurred. I usually shoot with a 1/60 or 1/40 depending on speed.

was hand holding my 100-400 L lens. i tried a lower shutter speed but the cars were blurry. my technique sucks as it was my first time shooting an auto-x

Camera EOS500D, lens 70-300 IS canon, 135mm (some were 250mm) Tv mode, servo focus, IS mode 2 and a shutter speed 1/50 - 1/60-1/80 depending on car speed and distance

Amazing thread, more amazing pictures. Thanks to all of the non-selfish photographers that have taken time to share their secrets with us amatures.

Do have one question, on the rig shots, how fast is your car normally moving when you take the picture? I saw the origional poster said his car was not even turned on and just barely rolling, is that how everybody accomplishes such amazing rig shots?

most rig shots are shot at very, very, slow speeds. like hardly moving speeds. for anyone interested in rig shots, and perhaps building your own, here's a link to an awesome place on POTN to start reading up on...

good write up bro! - what equipment did you use btw? alienbeees?

Lighting is everything.
Just to prove that you don't NEED to buy lighting equipment... use the most powerful light source, THE SUN! Photoshop isn't needed either..

Death to Fall

Canon 50D
135L
Shutter speed: 1/8000
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100

sounds like it would be difficult to set up on a lowered and kitted car like mine....

That was my first thought as well, but they seem to be making it work. Seems like it'd be a lot less painful in the editing portion of the picture though...
