DSLR Photography for beginner - How to shoot like a Pro.
was hand holding my 100-400 L lens. i tried a lower shutter speed but the cars were blurry. my technique sucks as it was my first time shooting an auto-x

Camera EOS500D, lens 70-300 IS canon, 135mm (some were 250mm) Tv mode, servo focus, IS mode 2 and a shutter speed 1/50 - 1/60-1/80 depending on car speed and distance

Amazing thread, more amazing pictures. Thanks to all of the non-selfish photographers that have taken time to share their secrets with us amatures.
Do have one question, on the rig shots, how fast is your car normally moving when you take the picture? I saw the origional poster said his car was not even turned on and just barely rolling, is that how everybody accomplishes such amazing rig shots?

Lighting is everything.
Just to prove that you don't NEED to buy lighting equipment... use the most powerful light source, THE SUN! Photoshop isn't needed either..

One other question, I was reading a lot on photography-on-the.net and i saw people talking about using under car rigs rather than the suction cup on top method, anybody have knowlage or oppinions on which are better?

sounds like it would be difficult to set up on a lowered and kitted car like mine....
