Hey guys, new updates here!
I recently got my order of the Elinchrom Quadra kit in. Essentially, this is every on-location photographer's dream!
When I was testing the kit out, I only used one strobe, but the kit that I ordered is with two heads. I also ordered an extra Quadra AS to use with the other light (essentially I have two 400ws strobes - enough to overpower the sun).
It's light, compact, and much more powerful for outdoors, daytime shoots. I did four shoots with it so far (3 with only one light). I'll do a more in-depth review if there is interest
Ranger Quadra - Pro Set - A Heads (10291)
Set Content :
* 1× Ranger Quadra AS (10261.1)
* 2× RQ A Speed Flashhead (20110)
* 2× RQ Flashhead Cable (11001)
* 2× RQ Reflector 13.5 cm (26145)
* 1× EL-Skyport Transmitter (19351)
* 1× RQ Case (33214)
* 1× RQ Battery (19294)
Extra Add-ons:
* 1× Ranger Quadra AS (10261.1)
Pros:
-Light, light, and light (if you used to carry 200lbs of lighting equipment, this is a DREAM!)
-Powerful enough for even the darkest situation
-LED Pilot Light that lasts hours
-150 shots per hour at FULL 400ws - I got over 500 shots at between the lowest to half power - on two, 2 hours shoot
-Hard-case is well organized
-A-heads designed for "action-freezing)
-Light enough for assistants to carry on their shoulder
-Comes with two batteries - twice the shooting time
-Each Quadra can push 400 ws per light or split 3:1 power if you plug in the 2nd head as well.
-New batteries (extra batteries) are only $110 each! This is a deal! I'm sure I'll be adding 2 more batteries in the near future.
-Skyport!!! Amazing! You can control the strobe unit's output using skyport and group them individually or fire them all at the same time! I switched from Pocketwizard to them just because of the light controlling capabilities!
Cons:
-Price: $2350 for the two-heads kit. If you want to get another Quadra AS to use with the other head (essentially you'll have two, 400ws strobes, it's another $1100!!!)
-Not enough to overpower the sun if you only have 1 strobe.
Conclusion: It's my dream setup. After breaking my back carrying two 1000dlr photogenic solairs, I realized it was too powerful (1000ws each) and tooooo heavy! This kit streamlined my equipment down and allows on-location shoot using battery power making it a strobist's dream! You now have enough power but not much weight
It's expensive, yes, but it's quality from Elinchrom and Swiss made. I'll switch through more camera bodies and lens before switching lights. It's well worth it.
Most of the shots below were shot with the Nikon AFS 70-200mm F2.8 VR

lots of overcast/humidity.

Local university late at night...

ISO 100 with a 30 sec shutter standard 18-105
Some HDR

3 shots at 3 different exposures.
Shot on a D90
And an attempt at a night shot here in Cincinnati.

I just read this whole thread, and learned ALOT.
I bought an Olympus E-420 3 days ago and I love it! It's my first DSLR, however I'll continue using my Canon Rebel k2 35mm SLR as well. I look forward to putting the tips Ive learned from this thread into play.
