Anybody have an idea as to what causes the original clear coat to flake and the whole finish to go to crap. mine seems to only have done it on the outside facing surface. the part on the inside facing the car is still a nice shiny red.

1. Sanded back callipers to smooth using a few different grades, also used a flat head screwdriver to help scrape off peeling paint/clear coat.
2. Cleaned using prep wash & let dry.
3. 3 coats of primer (just any i had on hand non high temp) let dry.
4. 3 even coats of VHT high temp paint in colour of choice.
5. Brembo stickers.
6. 1 light even clear coat using VHT high temp clear.

* many people here in AUS do not bother with the clear coat as they say it fades to a brown when brakes get hot ie: hard track work, the VHT high temp calliper paint is enough without clear as its finish is super glossy, I only did 1 coat of clear to hold the sticker on (well that was my thinking) but as I said clear coat is not needed or recommended down here.

As long as your prep work is good they will turn out fine, the Brembo stickers I got off eBay there is many sellers for them just look for one who sells evo specific brembo sizes.

this is a great thread. I repainted my Brembos earlier this year and the results were great. What a PIA, but after 2 days it was done.

I powder coated my vc a candy red color and I love it so I want to do my calipers to match. However, do I have to replace the seals to powder coat them? Can i reuse the old ones?. Don’t really want to trash my good ones just to coat the calipers.?????

I would think paint & clear would be just fine compared to powder coat because they are painted factory, and my valve cover is painted and it held up just fine with all the heat

And u can either order the brembo decals online or go and get them made at you're local sticker/sign store. I got a sticker place in the mall here and the ones they made for me are working fine
