Saving an evo, from rice to clean.
That sucks you replaced the bearings and didn't fix the noise... lifters maybe? That certainly wouldn't be coming from the bottom end though...
Nice work on the car so far.
Where you at in Pa? Check out the NE section and Phila Car Meets thread if your in the general area. We have meets every so often and a bunch of us autox together if your into that.
Also, Mishimoto makes a very nice, affordable, replacement rad for these cars. I just had to replace mine a few weeks ago.
Good Luck.

I am currently "saving" an evo too. When I was reading your story I was thinking about the issues I have had so far. My wiring was also a nightmare because apparently the guy before me had every entertainment device available hooked up but ripped out before sale. He also spray painted the car flat black which is how I got it for a good price. I thought I could stand it for a while but it has gotten to ridiculous to ignore now. I also swapped bumpers back to stock just because it's more my style.
thats TOO funny! i thought the kid never sold this car he told us it was in the shop getting worked on for the longest time. and i find it on here.
you have done a good deed i hope the car treats it how you treat it now.

A lifter tap you should be able to hear at idle and it would get increasingly louder in the higher RPM range. That sounds more like engine knock that your getting. Possibly a bad tune?
