Here is a vid on my car last week at a local event. Its a go kart track. I know I'm not the best driver as this is only my 3rd race. Any input is welcomed on my driving style and what not.
setup 04 rs

stock struts w/ tanabe gf210s

planning on getting some work done over the winter for upgrades.

it looked pretty good for your 3rd event.
The only thing I would say is to carry more speed into the sweepers and dont dive to apex immediately. Some of them you limit your speed on the inside and then blast out of the apex on power to the outside only to yank the car back to the other side of the track to prepare for the entrance into the next corner.
I see there is two types of pavement so maybe your doing it because the lighter concrete (or whatever it is on the inside of the majority of turns) has more grip. Maybe you can give me your thoughts on this.

Yeah after watching the video I thought that I could stay on the throttle longer. I was trying to stay on the concrete you are correct. It gives a little more traction.
I ran a 1:21:29 was my best two lap. The top car ran a 1:16:xx and it was a stripped race mustang. and the driver has a lot of experience.
How much would slicks help out?

Did you see a black evo X MR down there? Also a black 240? Both were from my area.
I was going to attend that event, but I went out to Winona, MN for a 2 day autox there.
Either way, nice job for just getting started. My advice is to try and catch rides with people who are some of the fastest out there. There is tons of reading material on the web too.

Oh, and honestly, concentrate on learning the correct "lines" on street tires. You will find that R-comps can be unforgiving, especially to a new driver.
It's much harder to find the limits of the tires, because the ones I used (hankook z214) didn't make a sound when they were about to let go of their grip. I'm actually back to the NT05's for autox this year, although next year I'm going to try the Hankook RS-3's. I'm sick of switching back and forth from street tires to R-comps for every event, since my evo is my daily driver as well.
Big piece of advice is focus on your driving. Then worry about mods later. And later isn't when you have 2 or 4 more autox's.
It takes time to get really good at this, and the more you mod the car, the harder it is to fully get used to your car and it's limiits.

I do need to get to more events and just get more seat time to improve for sure. I don't think I am pushing my car to the limit as of right now either.
Thanks for the advice. I will pry still get some winter mods but hold off on slicks.

Yeah I did. I rode with Dan in the MR. It was interesting with the auto.

Dan is still pretty new to autox as well. Seat time helps immensely!

EDIT:
If you are ever in the Sioux Falls area, certainly feel free to catch an autox. We only have 2 left in Sept though.
