Nice thread. Pondering a build like this for fun one of these years. Thanks for all the pics documenting things.

Thanks guys! Yeah acidtonic that was my goal. Plenty of people have done the swap, but none of them are extremely well documented. I figured I'd do my best to get the info out there so people understand what they're getting into with this sort of swap.

So perhaps I read something wrong, but I thought I heard someone in one of these Mirage threads mention that you don't have to swap floor pans? It seems like most threads I find involve crazy floor-pan cutting which I want to avoid since I'm not the best at welding yet.

Otherwise it's interesting. Someone just rear-ended my 2012 X last night and I'm thinking it's time to figure out another project.

Bummer man, sorry to hear about your X. Yeah, there is a way to go awd without swapping floorpans; but you have to find a Mirage that's not eaten up with rust. Basically the USDM Mirage rear end is identical to an Evo 3 rear end. You buy Evo 3 rear trailing arms and an Evo 3 subframe and use an Evo 8 diff and axles. You still have to clearance the floor for the diff, but it's nowhere near as involved of a swap as what I'm doing. Still a lot of cash in stock parts though. Look up a user named Scremn. He went awd using that method. (I can't remember if he's on here, but a google search should yield results)

Yeah, making progress. Nothing really exciting though as it's all rust repairs and sheet metal work at the moment. Really just need time to get it done now as all the parts are pretty much bought for the rear end swap. It's gonna be several weeks at least before a real update goes up and more than likely a couple months. Hoping to have the floor in by Thanksgiving though! Thanks guys!

That was me. I just did my conversion in 5 weeks in a 3dr Mirage. All Evo 4,5 & 6 rear ends fit in any 2dr, 3dr, or sedan Mirage, you just weld in the diff cradle bracket and toe arm brackets.

Got any pics or possibly even a more detailed write up or build thread with this method?

If I just have to get an Evo 6 rear end and weld in some brackets then swap to a 4G63T/Trans/Tcase I'm game.

Then I presume the subframe cutting is more for an Evo 8,9 rear?

So by cutting the frame you basically allow for easier sourcing of local parts vs ordering older Evo parts from overseas.. right?

Thanks for your reply.

It's much more involved than just replacing the floorpan, but if you have good frame rails in the back it can be easier. You have to custom do a few mounts and add some nuts inside the frame rails though. Nothing too incredibly difficult. That hardest part is changing the cups in the frame rails. Get the placement of the bracket inside the rail wrong and the car won't track straight.
