With the surface a little rough they are a pain to clean. I plan to peel it off and dip the whole car in matte red this summer. Did my wife's wheels last year and they are perfect and still look good!

Try using spray gun with plastidip gallon kit. If it is too much hassle, you can try Protect_dip spray can with spray trigger. This one turn out way more smooth on surface.

My gun is a $950 sata jet. I'm sure any hvlp gravity feed gun would work. The rubbing alcohol is sprayed on before the plastidip. After the alcohol dries then the dip goes on. It helps it adhere better. It's kinda like the predip spray you can order from dipyourcar. I ordered my stuff from a local shop that was highly recommended to me. I will be using a small spark contained compressor as well. The dip was 58 for 1 gallon prethinned with a 32 oz bottle of rubbing alcohol.

I am also in the spraying business and I never use any spraying equipment unless it is spark contained.

You are correct, any quality gravity feed gun with a properly sized pro set for the dip would work, it's always the compressor/motor that'll cause flashpoint safety issues.

That's the way to do it.

It might have fish eyes or turn out orange peel. I would recommend using one of the two. And also wait 30-45 minutes between coats. I did 5 coats with 40 minute dry time.

How do you apply the rubbing alcohol and does it burn through the finish. Do you was car the day before and spray the next. How long after applying alcohol do you start painting

With the alcohol you spray it on and wipe it off. Wait about 20 minutes for it to completely flash off then start applying medium coats of dip. It will no burn through the finish. I washed my car right before. You just gotta make sure there are no wet spots as this will cause problems with the dip.

I let mine sit for about 5-10 minutes then wiped off. I'll post another pic in a bit.

i think its all in how you look at it. if its a ****ty job then yes it looks cheap. but if you take your time and do it right then i think its a very tasteful alternative to repainting.
