Your opinion on gauge face design...
Hey Everyone,
It's been a little while since my last post, but the time has been productive. I'm really glad to see so many people interested in these gauges, definitely made my efforts more worth while. Here are a few updates:
- The EL wire is now brighter thanks to a bigger power source. (still 12V input) It is very readable at night and pretty good druing twilight hours.
- I have found a new clear coat that pretty much elimiates any reflections from the gauge face. IMHO, it is even less reflective than the stock gauges.
- The 180mph marker will not light properly unless the cluster housing is modified in some way. I'll keep looking for some easier solution but I might have to leave it be to keep the install straight forward.
I'll be editing my first post on this thread to better reflect our progress. I've noticed some new people that might not be following our progress on this project.
Just to recap, there are two styles of gauges available:

The first style is also available with a CF pattern to match the Blitz racing meter. The second style was meant to match Defi/Greddy, but it didn't turn out the way I intended. Instead they look simiar to stock, but white on black. The are no plans for white faced gauges at the moment.
The photos only illustrate the style of the gauge and not the final color theme.
I have a few new night pics that I'll post soon. Stay tuned.
Bryan

OMFG!! Those pics just floored me! The blue lighting looks NIIICCCEEE!!!
imp:

Just one question: is it possible to get the red portions of the Blitz-style gauges printed in blue to match the blue backlighting?
FWIW ... IMO Bryan is the HNIC of gauge design, hehe.

Bryan look how good your blue backlighting setup matches these new A'pexi EL II gages.

Good question about the 180 MPH numbers not showing up at night can you fix that ??

The blue ones are sweet - It is exactly what I am looking for and what you initially promised at the very beginning of all this...f you can just get the 180 to light up it will be perfect. It would also be great if you could get the small splashes of red on the daytime view to be blue that would be great.
thanks a keep up the great work...!!!!

Regarding the 180MPH marker. The only way to make it light up is to make a minor change to the cluster. Like this:

I don't know why they have that extra space there for another light. But the modification involves placing a cardboard or plastic barrier to block off the check engine light box, then cut the upper wall enough to let light through.
I'll take pictures once I mod the cluster I have.
Here is a pic of the second design with red backlight, it's still white by day.

A few more pics: Using a new Krylon Matte clear coat, the gauge faces produce almost no shine under direct lighting conditions. Left is before any clear coating, center is the original Krylon Satin clear coat, right is the new Matte coating. (although the matte coating looks blurry, it is the steep angle that made it look blurry; see the next pic)

Here's the Blitz CF style:
