Update:

I took the condoms off the stock bulbs and they do provide enough light to see clearly at night. The only thing that doesn't light up fully is the EVOLUTION VIII part, but there is no direct light behind that.

I will be getting a professional photographer to take some digital pictures this weekend so that you guys can see clearly how it will look with the stock cluster lighting with the needles installed. Combat will take pictures with the EL wire lighting so you can see how they look both ways.

Since we are trying to keep the price at $130.00 , including shipping we are going to sell them without the EL wire lighting and give you guys sources to pick up the EL wiring and inverter as cheap as possible. If we picked them all up it would add to the cost and we know you guys want to walk away with these as cheap as possible.

The group buy will start next week and the standard options will be as follows:

Blitz style:

Black backing: white day/white night
Black backing: white day/blue night

CF (look) backing: white day/white night
CF (look) backing: white day/blue night

Greedy style:

Black backing: white day/white night
Black backing: white day/red night
Black backing: white day/blue night

We will be taking custom color requests, but these will add to the time it will take to ship to you guys.

If you guys intend to go the EL wire lighting route, I would suggest that you order your gauges with the white day/white night and just buy colored EL wiring. However this will give you the same coloring day and night.

If you want to go the EL wire lighting route and want white gauges by day and colored gauges by night, then order the colored night lighting version of the gauges and just buy white EL wiring.

We will provide a link to a webpage with complete instructions with pictures and how to re-calibrate your needles.

Once the group buy has reached at least 25 people, we will start shipping these out, and hope that we can get all 25 out within two weeks of the close of the group buy.

At this time there are no options to change the coloring on the front of the gauges, meaning we can't put markings in one color and have the other markings in a different color (i.e. the low mark on the fuel level or the high marks on the tachometer).

If you have any more questions, keep posting or send me a PM.

As promised, I will contact everyone who has expressed interest (either through this post or through PM'ing me) and let them know the GB has begun and give them first placing.

Payment will be able to be made, via money order, cashier's check or via PayPal including credit card payments (shipped only to confirmed addresses).

Put me down for the:
Blitz style, Black backing: white day/blue night

Questions??? -
1 - what is the purpose of the El wiring? I am confused...you can still get the blue lighting at night with out them right?

2 - So are you saying that the Evolution VIII and the 180mph will not show up at night?

thanks,
-Doug

Doug

Question 1 - The EL Wiring provides a bright intense light that provides a similar bright look the electroluminescent (sp?) gauges give off. The pictures you see of the gauges above were using a white EL wire. The stock gauge cluster uses standard incadescent bulbs, that provide a dimmer yellowish-white light, so the lighting effect is not as intense. The night coloring does show up at night with the stock cluster lighting. I will have pictures of what the gauges look like at night, hopefully by the end of this weekend. I will not start the group buy until I have pictures of each variable we are offering, so everyone can choose what is right for them. My suggestion would be to buy the one you like with the coloring you want and try it out with the stock lighting, then if you want more intense light then purchase the EL wiring.

Question 2 - The EVOLUTION VIII does light up with the stock lighting, however it is much dimmer than the rest of the cluster as it is the furthest piece away from an actual bulb. The pictures I will post after this weekend will show you exactly what I am talking about. The 180MPH section only lights up a very small part of the 180, Combat posted pictures of what you would have to remove from the gauge cluster itself in order to get the 180 MPH to light up fully or he suggested that you simply cover the back of the 180 with electrical tape so that it just won't light up at all.

I hope that answered your questions, if it did not answer them completely, please let me know so I can respond again with more detail.

Emulous,

I'm looking for the first style (first picture) I want the black backround white day/ and orange night, (light orange like you see one the new bmw gauges).

Please PM me with the information please add me to your group buy list and pm me the necessicary information. I'm looking to buy asap, also is recalibrating of the gauges needed? Also send me info on the EL wires.

Thanks,

Brett

Installed PICS of Custom Gauge Faces

Sorry about the quality of the Pics, but I just picked up a Cannon Digital EOS Rebel SLR camera and I'm still trying to figure it out.

Here's two day shots of the CF Blitz style white day/blue night installed:

No lighting (key turned to off) daytime pic:

Key turned to the on position, stock lighting applies (meaning the gauges are lit just like the stock gauges are lit during the day:

I'll take more pictures tonight so you can see what they look like at night with the stock lighting.

I didn't get the other gauges yet from Combat, so I haven't been able to take shots of those with the stock lighting. If they get here before Tuesday, then I'll post the pics, otherwise it will have to wait until I get back from Miami on Saturday.

As stated the group buy will begin next week:

As you wish:

Just remember, this is a brand new camera for me, the gauges are not blurry at night, I just haven't mastered the camera yet in order to take decent pictures.

When I took the condoms off the stock bulbs, I also took the condom off the bulb that lights the lcd, which is why it's so bright. I'll make sure the instructions state to leave that one on, however I'm going to see if some colored transparencies will now work to mask the color.

Here's an overall shot:

Remember these were the prototypes, the same ones in the earlier pic that used the EL wiring, so you should be able to see the different effects that each lighting source gives off. We are also working on getting the coloring process to go on more evenly. As stated earlier the 180 get's chopped off for light, so you'll need to modify your cluster if you want to see it. Also there is no direct light source for the EVOLUTION VIII section so it does not light up fully.

Personally, I've been driving around with these for over 1K miles and these gauges are so much more clearer than stock, and you don't notice the EVOLUTION VIII or the 180. But if that bothers you, I would suggest modify the cluster as described earlier and ordering the EL Wiring so that you get the brighter more directable lighting.

Set ISO on camera to 800. Focus with interior light on. Lock focus. Turn interior light off. Hold camera still. Press shutter.

I'm concered about the inconsistent lighting across the gauges...and what is the difference between the EL wiring vs whatever it is that is here?

Overall it looks very promising, just some bugs that need to be worked out.
