My only suggestion would be to use the condensed-bold oblique type of the Blitz gauges for the numbers. Otherwise, very cool.

I think this is getting close to ones I would want. Too bad paint is such a pain to work with.. A carbon fiber look for the background would be the finishing touch that I don't have the tool to make look right..

Okay, here's what I have tried so far. I've changed the lines on the temp gauge to match the fuel and also added VIII under the evolution. The only reason I'm going with under versus over the evolution lettering is because it would be easier to make.

And here's the red white and blue one, very patriotic.

I'm still a little weary about changing the redline, need to think about it some more.

I really like that last one! Would it be possible to do it with a Carbon fiber look background? what about the MPH and RPM Numbers in Blue and in Red? Should the Fuel E and line be Red?

Nearly every Evo I've driven that swaps guages also ends up with other mods and so the redline always gets moved up, heh. 8K makes it also that much more of a wow factor when all the kids look in and go WOW 8K RPM redline.. Same with the Speedo. This thing goes 200 MPH? Speaking of, err typing of, could another set of ticks be added to include 180 MPH on the guage?

These are really looking awesome! AS much as I hat the stock guages, this makes it so much better, since if you have to replace em, you could really get an awesome look with a little more Ooomph to it 8K RPM, 180 MPH, etc..

I've been hearing a lot about CF style faces too. But I really haven't seen any good ones (except the REAL CF ones). It could be done, again more work. I do prefer things simple, the more patterns and colors, the more distracting it is.

Has anyone ever seen guages with multichromatic paint so they change color in different light and at different angles.

I like the last red/white/blue one that combat posted. I really like that there are less hash marks on the gauges and they're much easier to distinguish than the stock ones. If the number/hashes lit up whitish or even any other color than the red of the needle, that would make the gauges much easier to read in the dark, too.

Not a big fan of raising the redline, probably cuz I have a stock car. Also don't really like the idea of a CF background. Having 180 on the speedo might be kind of fun though.

First off, I want to thank CombatCQB for all the time and effort and emails he has put into this project. I want to apologize for how long it's taken me to respond to all your emails. I'm hoping that by the end of our project you will be handsomely rewarded.

Great work so far.

CombatCQB and I have been running round and round on not only the design, but mainly how to make these gauges, since we both have no connections in this industry we are really starting from scratch and CombatCQB has been doing all the work, I've just been adding my impressions and opinions and only donating the instrument cluster to work from, so all props go to him.

One thing everyone needs to consider when throwing in colors is how they will look during the day and at night. What we are trying to do is replace the gauge faces, not the complete instrument cluster, so we are still limited to (unless you all can think of a workable solution) the lighting that is on at all times, so daytime and nighttime will still look different, during the daytime some lighting and coloring will still come through and daytime visibility is very important.

I think we will be able to go with a clear/frosted mylar type backing with vinyl overlays and then use colored transparent film behind the mylar to get different colors for daytime and nightime. This process would allow for a lot of customizing in lettering/coloring/etc. I don't think blue lettering will show up well during the daytime, so the thin blue line with the white lettering will still make it practible and easily have the lettering turn to blue at night. We also have to deal with the orange LCD for the mileage because if you've taken about the cluster you'll see that the coloring is behind the back of the LCD and not just behind the LCD cover and is imbedded into the instrument cluster and I could not see an easy way to remove it. (So it's not going to be as easy to do as in a Focus [as Mister2zx3 knows]). If you place colored transparent film over the LCD it will make it more difficult to read during the daytime.

On the red line limit, I think if we use a lighter shade (color) or shading from 7 to 8K and then a darker shade or shading from 8K on then this not only puts in marking for the factory red line but also the fuel cut off and what others have upped their red line to.

I also would like a carbon fibre look background as well as KPH on the speedo as I drive into Canada often and my ****ty public education and lack of motivation have kept me from doing the conversion in my head.

While I have found a source for electroluminescent gauge faces, it does not look like a simple thing to do, so maybe that can be a next step in this process after we've completed and produced something from this.

My last idea was to use the kit from importcarpartsplus.com to change the coloring of the needles to blue (white during the day) so that it would match the Blitz BLM gauges very nicely. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...gauge+overlays

Keep the comments rolling...
