Body shop gurus, I need your input
Body shop gurus, I need your input
Ladies and gents,
I was hit on Target parking lot and the damage was very infuriating.
Anyways, I took it to a reputable custom body shop and they said that they cannot pull the fender out because it's a 2 layer. The work will be a done by sanding it down, then put icing on it(supposedly the newer and better way of filling nowadays), then paint the entire quarter panel .
Then while I was in an autocross event yesterday, one body shop owner said they can pull the fender out.
Body shop gurus, what is your input?

I'd suggest finding a reputable PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) shop, and get a second opinion. There doesn't appear to be any paint damage or sharp creases. Should be a fine candidate for PDR.
i just had something like this happen to me...i called a pdr guy and he fixed it and a bunch of little dents all over for $260...the quarter panel is not perfect but its pretty good...itll do for now...best thing, no paint needed...they have these suction things the glue on and with a slide hammer pull on it...worse case scenario they have to drill a hole inside the door jam to put a tool in there and then they put a plug in it but you dont see it...at least you dont have to have 2 lbs of bondo on it...

Im an estimator at a body shop, and I would be surprised to see a PDR guy get all of that out. He might be able to make it better looking but not get it all the way out. Most likely the inner wheel house is attached to the qtr panel right there, so its gonna be hard to make it like new again without some pulling and some glazing, then paint. Then to match, they will also blend onto the left rear door as well. Make sure if you take it to a shop to ask them to clear the qtr all the way to the windshield, along the pillar. Some shops like to blend the clear, never been a fan of it. You can try a pdr guy, but for the time he may have into it, its just a chance he can get it all the way out. Something like that came into our shop, we wouldnt contact pdr.
The gsr and ssl evos have aluminum hoods and front fenders. The mrs have aluminum hoods, fenders and a roof.
