upper strut mount
Since the brake/suspension forum is about useless, if its not about rims or tires ppl seem not to be interested.
I removed my front strut to install my new springs and noticed that the upper mount/insulator seemed to have a little play when the strut was off the car. I was wondering if this is normal?
I know the bearing is isolated in rubber, so there s some flex, but the bearing seemed to jiggle around a fraction of an inch. This was with the nut still tight and stock spring still assembled, never removed. I even checked to make sure the nut was tight, it was.

actually, there is a small amount of jiggle in the bearing of a brand new oem strut mount. its more than i thought there would be - i was expecting none, but it feels like the same amount of play in the original strut mounts with 55k miles that i'm replacing. however, there are metal-to-metal scrape marks where the outer bearing race has been rubbing against the upper spring seat. i hope the new strut mounts fix the rattling noise in my front suspension.
