Need advice on screechy brakes!

So I'm borrowing my friend's Evolution IX MR for the weekend, test driving it before I decide to buy my own. Occassionally, when I press the brakes it will screech very loudly, then when I left off a little bit it will stop, however I'd only be lightly braking at that point. The sound is very irritating and didn't start happening til a few hours after I first started test driving the car. Any idea what it could be, what I could do to fix it? All advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Brake pad choice. Bedding and right pads will fix that.

Don't forget these are perfomance brakes, but new "shims" will help mitigate the schreeching... They are going to screeh occasionally...

Good pads will squeak and dust more than normal ones.

^ Better pads won't squeak and dust less than stock.

To the OP ... the squeaking is most likely due to:

a. choice of pads. Many higher performance (read: meant for track use) will squeak no matter how well you install them

b. Poor pad installation - not using the factory shims and anti-seize grease

c. Poor pad bed in after install

I have run stock pads (no squeaking), Hawk HPS pads (no squeaking), Hawk HP+ pads (squeak like a ****), Performance Friction "Z" pads (only squeak when pushed hard), Performance Friction PF-97 pads (squeak like a **** and then some at the track, but relatively quiet on the street after initial install).
