Just came back from dealership 2nd time...

Went in for the same lt front clunking noise and they replaced the end links, no good.(Had to wait a month for the links b/c they were back ordered!!) Still noise. Took a test drive with mechanic and he said it could be my brake pads moving up and down. BS!! What can we do?? Is it worth it to put on a new strut and will Mitsu warranty this? Any suggestions? Or latest solutions to the problem?

ok friends since i own my car from new it has the front left clunking noise so i took my car to the dealer by the way i have 4500miles on it and they said it was the front sway bar or stabilizer bar and they said the bushings were a bit to soft so they reinforce the bushings with a lot of rubber pieces so we took the car for a drive and the cluncking diminished a lot but still there so he said that the cars suspension is like that cause it is to rigid but a freind of mine has another evo and his doesnt clunk so what i think is that this mitsu mechanincs dont know BS so here to my dealer once a year a technician from japan comes to help them with problems so i guess i will have to wait for the japanese tech also what i think is that maybe my front strut is going bad or maybe is the strut bearing but havent tried taking them out and testing them!! also when they removed the stabilizer bar they didnt align it so i went under my car and you have to align the left bushing with a mark on the the stabilizer bar so i align it but no good the same clunk sound!!
also the tech manual of the car says to check for lube when noise appears but where in the world do i lube my car i tried the sway bushings and no good but what else do i lube anyone??
thanks in advance

Has anyone got Mitsu to warranty a new strut for this problem? And/or is this the fix for the problem.

Yes. When it was quite new, I took the car in and demonstrated the noise for the service tech. They replaced the right front strut under warranty.

It fixed the problem, but only for a short while. The noise returned on the same corner of the car after a couple of thousand miles.

Most people in this thread think the strut is NOT the source of the problem. So, maybe in replacing the strut they tightened something else that caused the noise to go away? Your guess is as good as mine.

Anyway, I got XM radio installed and I turn it up so the noise doesn't bother me anymore.

but the key is...is the clunk affecting anything?? no matter how much you turn up your xm radio..if the handling is affected then you're not addressing the problem properly..

i have an evo 7 gsr.

the other day i came up to a corner, and while rolling and turning, floored the throttle. i heard a loud *** knock and got very worried. i pulled over and looked under the hood at the strut bar, under the car to see if anything looked strange, but nothing.

now i notice it if i go over sharp bumps while braking hard.....not with the cornering since the first time...

I had clunking for quite a while which would sometimes go away and come back. I have HKS coilovers, so I took them out and nothing wrong.

I had a clutch job where they found that one of my axle boots had torn apart and was missing. It was replaced and filled back w/ oil.

I haven't heard any noise since.

I also have experienced this. But whats weird is this just occured when we removed my downpipe cause we was doing some porting to the turbo and stuff. Once everything was put back on it started. Only time mine does it is when go from a stop it clunks some. I have the RSR 3in downpipe with the catdelete i think it might be hitting the sway bars cause its so frickening big cause there aint a lot of clearence between it and the downpipe. But the sound def sounds like its in the left wheel somewhere

Of course, I was kidding a little bit about the radio, but:

Naaaah....I haven't detected the slightest effect on the handling. Can't feel any evidence through the steering wheel when the clunk occurs either. I haven't been following this thread too closely, but I don't think anyone has suggested a handling problem or a safety issue.

Wow.... 17 pages of replies and still no answers

I'll chime in that I have the same problem.

2005 EVO XIII.

100% bone stock (probably the only one here )

6,300 miles.

Front right corner. Loud when it is cold outside. And turning left. And recently I was giving a few friends a ride was breaking heavily before an off-ramp, and we heard such a loud bang (from the right front corner) it sounded like we had run over something. We all nearly jumped in our seats. It was LOUD.

No damage that I can find, and I'm 100% there was nothing in the road.

Wish Mitsu had a fix, but thanks for saving me a trip to the dealer just to be told "TADTS".

Thanks,
John

Has anyone else had the dealer hook up acoustical sensors and drive the car around? Mine did, and it enabled them to find/fix the problem straight away. Mine did turn out the be the strut bearing only, and was it ever loud and annoying.

Hutch, I'm sorry, I guess what I meant was no solution you could take it to the dealer to get. So busy I rarely get time to work on my own cars anymore .

Though what I have is more of a clunk than a bump. My untrained ear would have guessed loose endlinks or strut bearing that has developed some play.

Best,
John
