I have Tanabe GF210s on it. I realized that the reason that you can see under the washer is because there is less grease on that side. I put more grease in there and I'm still getting the clunking. I also took the wheel off and checked everything out..... it all looks fine.

Debating on purchasing a set of coilovers or not. Wondering if that will even fix the problem.

I started getting a clunk noise just lastnight after I installed my Tein S-Tech Springs. I noticed it on the driver side mostly when I would turn my wheel fully left or right.. it would just pop once. I haven't hit any big bumps in the car yet and I haven't driven it more than about 2-3 miles since it started doing this for fear of making it worse.. Many of my friends say it's just how new springs are, they clunk until they get fully seated.. I hope this is the case but I'm almost not willing to wait and find out. Have any of you ever had this noise right after installing springs? I don't think I did anything wrong on the install especially since I just had to loosen a handful of bolts to get the strut and spring assembly off.

Thats pretty much when mine started. A few weeks maybe a month after my spring install.

Anyone have the stock KYB shocks fail? I think mine just did and they only have 45k miles, no track days/autocross.

Are you running aftermarket springs? If so, that would lead to premature failure. The increased spring rate is tough for stock struts/shocks to handle. Just a thought....

Nope. Stock springs. It was making a slight clunking noise at low speed for a while, but now it's all the time.

Took apart my strut when I got home. There's a shaft that runs to the bottom of the strut body that looks like it snapped. I'm guessing that's what's making the loud clunking noise. Hope that helps somebody.

Just had this clunk 4 days after buying my 05 MR. Turned out it was a bad strut. Cost for repair was 1200.00 for the 2 struts and 200 for the install. The minute we put the car up in the air I noticed the driver side strut had some oil on the main shaft.I am running Work springs and yes lowering springs contribute to premature strut failure. I had 29K on mine when they went. No more clunk. YEEEEHAWRick

i fixed my clunks and popping.. it might be different for others. the two bolts that connect to the strut and behind the brake rotor were moving around. i think it wasnt tight enough and now the hole where the 2 bolts go to are an oval because it was moving around and clunking so much.. but i tighten them with a impact gun. now i have a weird alignment problem and steering seems very loose..

$1200?!? You could've bought an entire new set of struts and springs for that. Wow...

The top mounting hole is supposed to be oval, that's where you adjust your camber on a stock strut. You may want to seriously consider getting an alignment done at a good alignment shop. Torque specs and a torque wrench FTW.

Its normal, spring bind - at low speeds turning your front springs rotate with the turn of the steering wheel and so the spring needs spin freely but sometimes it gets caught up and "binds" while turning the wheel. A bigger (brand new) thrust washer at the top of the camber plates cure this and you can use grease but that is only a temp fix.

I am having the binding noises now leaving and coming to a stop??? I hate noisy coilovers
