Hi thanks for your help! I just replaced the front bushens and it there after started clunking. It sounds mechanical though, maybe something with the 4wd only on the right side with a full lock. Probably best I get it checked out by the professionals.

Hate those noises
but love my car!

thanks again

I've replaced the front tie rods and wheel bearings in my Evo due to alignment and clunking issues. All is good now. Good luck.

So I have never heard this noise until immediately after my clutch install. Now I have a clunk in the front drivers side at speeds lower than ~30mph. Is there a definitive answer to this issue?

things that would help this post is if people who reply could say what shocks they are running ie mr with bilstiens etc , and aslo if you are on stock or aftermarket springs.

i get a noise from my front right shock bilstien with stock spring. it only happens for the first few miles of driving after the car has been sitting for a while. after that it goes away. i am almost positive that it is something internal in my shock .

any other mr owners have this noise that goes away after a few miles.

I have a bone stock IX GSR. I never touched the 4 bolts at the top of the strut tower when I did my install.

mine was clunking for a while as well, but found out when I installed my springs, I didn't tighten the strut bolts(19mm) that bolt up to the hub/knuckle enough. i thought i did with the 1/4 ratchet, but guess not. drove it like that for 2 months and just thought it was normal clucking from the drop, but I just noticed when I put my snow tires on. Had to use a 1/2 ratchet to get torque on the bolts. it rides soo much better

Gonna check the strut bolts tomorrow(123 +/- 7 lbs. ft.). Something I just found however, that I have not known about is that the top 19mm bolt sets the camber to either 1% or 2% depending on the orientation of the arrow on the bolt head. I'm thinking that maybe I did not torque those bolts properly wither way, but I still have to see which way they are orientated.

Has anyone found a cause of the clunking i just started hearing it, its pretty loud although i do have 70,000 on my struts. It only happends when i hit a good size bump strait or turning right and hitting a bump.

mine does the same thing. I am thinking it is my sway bar, or swaybar endlinks. When I changed my oil the other day, i also noticed that my downpipe had signs of contact with the cross-member. Maybe that has something to do with it?? I am not sure, but mine is getting louder. and its getting louder really quick.

Mine ended up being the bearings in the strut top. It wouldn't spin freely when weighted. When the wheel was turned and unloaded it would make a pop noise, kind of like it breaking loose. Also, mine seemed to do it more frequently when when the roads were wet.
I replaced those, loaded them up with grease, put the covers back on and put tape over the little holes in the covers. All has been well.

breaking news on the clunk in the front right!

So i brought my car to a local shop, and the mechanic sent me to a tranny specialist. He's heard a similar noise in the past and it turned out being transmision issues. So the mechanic at the tranny shop said it was a pinion bearing or pinion shaft or something. Im gonna call back tomorrow and get specefics but i have an issue now. I have a warranty with preffered warrantys and the tranny shop my car is at is in the middle of a lawsuit with that warranty company. So now i have to find a new place to take it to. Hopefully they replace the tranny and the noise is gone but i hope this helps people out. Ill keep you posted when a get the car worked on.

UPDATE: please reference post #474. Well I had the camber bolt turned the wrong way in the drivers side, and both strut to knuckle bolts on the passenger side were installed backward with the nuts on the rear side of the strut. I flipped the passenger side bolts around correctly, and retorqued, and spun the drivers side bolt 180 degrees to set it to 1^. NO MORE NOISE!!!! So please check your connecting bolts between the strut and steering knuckle to make sure they are orientated properly.
