Rear Joint - PICS
I have noticed a clunk coming from the PS rear suspension. I also noticed inside tire wear on that wheel. If I grab the rim and shake the car, once it gets into a rhythm I hear the clunk and notice the top of the rim moves relative to the strut.
After removing the tire I notice the joint pictured below is oozing grease. I had replaced the entire suspension with Megan Streets and H&R bars front/rear. I did the usual PSRS and Whiteline roll center kit for the front.
I suspect that since I initially set the dampening very aggressive that it has stressed this joint. I am also noticing the DS is starting to ooze and I hear a slight noise when shaking that side.
I have a question, but I think I know the answer. Can this joint be replaced or must I purchase new arms?

^^^ not true. I am still looking to find replacable balljoints for the Evo 8/9 or X. Dealer does not sell them - you have to buy the whole arm.
OP - Yes, your balljoint is oozing grease. Doesn't mean the joint is destroyed. When suspension was installed, how was this joint loosened? People use pickle forks and screw drivers which destroy boots. You need to use a balljoint seperator. NXT Tools sells the mitsu specific version but any balljoint seperator tool should work.
Check to see if the boot is ripped. Mitsu sells boots - you can repack them and install a new boot.

With regards to repacking, I think the joint itself is damaged and is the source of the rear clunking sounds. I am not sure repacking will fix the problem.

Ok, I know whiteline sells 2 bushings for this arm (on each side).
Off-topic - I think there is a market for balljoints. If someone can push ones out measure and find a replacement, they will sell like hotcakes. Andrew @ GTWORX - hope you are reading this

Jim, make sure the collar that locks the strut body( the one near the arrow) is tight. I went through a similar issue with my coil overs and it was nothing more than a loose locking collar.

Walker, Thanks and I did verify all of them were tight. I actually had the front DS loosen and drop slightly. When I grab the rim and shake the car you can hear something knocking. When I had my buddy shake the car I can see the rim moving relative to the strut. I was thinking it was a wheel bearing, but seeing the grease oozing out it makes sense.
