Tightening top nut of a coilover
Tightening top nut of a coilover
Hi all. I'm getting a clunk from my front stance gr + pro coils. First thing I tried was to tighten the top nut but I'm finding that this was turning the shock shaft as well. Any ideas how to do this properly? Thanks a bunch!

Don't use an impact gun. Post pics of how the top strut nut looks like so we can help you further. On another note, are you sure that's the cause of the noise? It could be the spring too, when it doesn't freely rotate on the collars, you can fix that by installing some Coil-Over Shock Thrust Bearing. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HA...-109/?rtype=10

If the threaded portion is long enough, use two nuts and lock them against each other, and use the to hold the shaft still...like you would do to a manifold stud. I've done that and it works very well. The top nuts really don't require a lot of torque.
I'll start off by explaining that all of my experience is with Megan Racing coilovers, but the megan racing website does actually instruct you to tighten the nut by putting a closed end wrench around the nut and a hex tool in the hole where the adjustment knob is. It doesn't go down into the adjuster, it just goes into the metal shaft above the adjuster.
