Evo 9 - leaking front strut and making noise on the right front

My Evo 9 at low speed (less than 10mph), every little bumpe and crack in the road gives my front right a pinging sound . I brought it to a repair shop to check it out and they told me to replace the front struts.

They said the car has a leaking strut and is making noise on the right front side.
the shop says the OEM front struts cost $350 each / $700 a pairs and labor cost $315 + 100 alignment . total is 1215 with tax . ( it sounds a bit expensive to me is this price reasonable ?) then I ended up paying $50 for checking ...

I am wondering should I replace the same OEM struts, or to get a better brand or is there anyway to just repair my current struts ? is it a common problem ? any advise would be greatly appreciated .

Strut is blown.

Do you have an Evo 9 MR? If not, no - KYBs are not rebuildable.

Search the For Sale forum here for a set of used KYBs. Should be $300 for all 4 (less for just front pair). Find a new shop. $315 for a 2 hour job is way off.

Better: Bilstein HD struts (new) or used set of Bilstein MRs. Both are rebuildable. Cost more up front.

Shop has no idea what an Evo is.

Should not have to replace the spring.

I just placed an order of a pairs of front Bilstein HD Struts. Does it matter if I am using Bilstein HD Struts in the front and keeping the KYB in the rear ? ( since the rear struts are still good )

Rears wont be that far along to they need to be replaced also. For daily driving, wont make a big difference if keeping the OEM springs on all 4 corners.

I'd start saving up for the rears.
