yep... :|

did you happen to have a log of the incident?

or do you remember what you were doing at the time? was it WOT at peak torque type stuff?

or just cruising?

i find it interesting to see when some engines let go..

No log, i was on my way to the drag strip. I was getting onto the freeway, well going from one to another.

I don't think it was full throttle but up there, prolly 3k rpm maybe 3500 which would be full torque with such a low rpm and high input. The turbo didn't even fully spool was prolly only 10psi or so, it was just about to hit and it let go.

mmm...

its a shame no one really has a log of it... be good to see the log leading up to the failure..

thats why I am ALWAYS logging... 8GB microsd in my OP20

*touch wood* that I will never need to look at it under these circumstances

Yea it's not fun dealing with this for sure, but potentially i will come out with a more awesome setup.

Murlo, I find it hard to believe that you blew your motor at 10psi... The X motors are fairly stout and honestly I think a lot of this was due to the tuning... I'm not going to bash on you and I'm sorry for you losing your motor.

I would be interesting to see your timing map - if you are happy to post such things?

^ maybe it was a friday-motor?

Considering how you're never satisfied power-wise, I think it was just a matter of when you'd be upgrading.

It let go at 10...I'm sure that the rod/piston was weakened the day before when he was practicing launching in preparation for going to the track on Saturday morning.

We use a very experienced tuner. What's true is that Dave always pushed for 100%. It certainly wasn't a conservative tune, such as what this tuner would put on my car...I have him tune it and then pull a couple degrees. The numbers in my sig isn't my every-day tune...it's my "dyno queen" tune.

That's an interesting question. My car has thrown 2 CELs in the whole time that I've owned it. Dave was getting CELs all of the time. He figured it was just because he ran more than 30psi and I kept my tune at 29psi but who knows now, right?

True, eventually i had planned on upping the game, but really didn't want to do it now, over the summer.

I have only ever had 2 CEL's, both times the p0300 random misfire codes. The ASC lights i would get were experienced by everyone running roughly 30psi or more. When my boost was screwy and i was only hitting 26psi i never got the ASC lights.

Not so bad then. Mine were 'cylinder rich' and I battled with the hfc and the rear o2 for a week.

The one on the car at the time of the motor going down was the p0300, my mechanic friend had his code reader with him and looked at the info about the code. When i got the code it was at like 10% throttle, so not sure what that was all about.

It could have been a Friday-Motor but i expect the cylinder pressure was out the roof with them trying to push the car to the limits which has already been stated that they were.

^Maybe a friday motor, maybe not. The car was incredibly reliable up until it went. It always seemed to take to the power levels great and it had seen a lot of dyno time. I probably didn't take into account just how much dyno time it took, i am sure that affected it somewhat too. I retuned quite a bit because i way always changing stuff.

I still think that the torque was what killed the motor...and i don't think the tune had anything to do with it, maybe it did but i doubt it.

We will learn more eventually, once i pull the motor. (well once i have it pulled, i won't be doing it, lol)

I was considerably closer to 460wtq...

I actually hit a dynojet but it wasn't hitting my target boost/target load/timing etc. (which is why i didn't post up) At like 29psi i was hitting 430wtq, so figure a bunch more for 33psi.

before i switch to tephra v7 ecu flash, my car have 2 code check engine light with e85 tune, 1 is the po171 , the other is some sensor in the intake, i forgot . After tephra v7 no more check engine light, thanks tephra. But my cel some time flash when i floor the gas, i guess it's showing knock . I thought e85 doesnt knock at all. But before tephra v7 mods, my car actually run a lot better, really smooth throttle, and i doubt any knock. I got my car tuned 5 times with 4 different tuners already. The best time when my car run is without a tephra v7 mods. Not trying to put tepra mods down, but my car run real bad with tephra v7 mods. I blew up my motor because of 44psi that i stupidly forgot to turn the boost down, but before this my car run suck, maybe because of the bad tune.
