Radar Detectors
BTW - I also like how the 9500 shows the speed - nice little feature.
Spectre is picked up by nearly all modern detectors, although sometimes confused with the ka band. either way you know that radar or a rdd is ahead. rdd isn't pin point accurate so by the time your detector goes off you should be slowing down and getting ready to turn it off incase it is a cop. if your dead alone on the highway you maybe screwed if you don't get it off in time
when i 1st moved to va i got nailed having one. i think it was an addition 75$-95$ on top of the speeding ticket. 3am all alone on the highway nailed me good =(
learned my lesson
Yes, if you get caught regardless of plates it is a fine. 0 points but a fine none-the-less. The mpg drop by going more than 10 over cost way to much for me to speed any more than that
learned my lesson

Driving thru virginia next month should i put my radar away when i drive thru? even though my plates are from florida?
They are illegal in VA and CT, also Wash DC and I believe the city of Denver (not sure on that one though-don't get out there much anymore). Maryland is fine.
One thing Maryland and Delaware have been doing for several years is to set up a trap in an area where the k band is already active (bank or auto doors). Be careful before discounting any alarms.

Best detector by far of the 3 i have used (solo2, passport x50 and v1).
If there is a radar band, you will know well in advance and in what direction it is coming from which takes out the guess work when you are trying to locate the potential threat, but with laser, you will still get caught, no matter what detector you have. Laser is a quick burst of light that is reflected back to the operator in which after your detector has detected it, they already have your speed.. there have been instances in which it does bounce off other vehicles, but normally, if you get hit with laser, they are targeting your vehicle and have your speed instantly not allowing you to slow your vehicle in time.
Radar traditionally emits a more constant band which travels for distances and can be picked up by a detector even a few miles away allowing ample time for speed reduction.. but there is also an exception here, with the new pop-mode which is like a combination of laser and radar, think of it as an instant on radar. The same results are experienced as with laser, your speed instantly relayed back to the operator.
The newest version of the V1 (1.8) will detect all the bands (K, Ka, X, Laser, and Pop-Mode), but like any detector, this is not a free ticket to speed.. you still need to drive 'smart'..
I don't think I have ever heard a bad thing about the V1 other than price, but you always get what you pay for, and with the V1 you are not getting a second rate detector.. and you can always upgrade it when new bands and speed trapping devices come out http://www.valentine1.com/upgrades/

Let me know if you have any other questions, but I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with the V1's quality, performance, and customer service

I hear OH is about ~50% laser now? if so i feel for ya
pop has some legal issues as far as accuracy and ascertaining a constant vehicle speed so its not widely used. (i need to start bookmarking the sites i read this stuff to link back cause finding it again is a pain in the ***)

I have a Beltronics 995. Have had it for years now. Tests have shown it alerts quicker than a V1 and since my brain is wired to brake as soon as I hear/see the Ka band alert, it's better for me than a V1.
Most people who buy V1's are fanboys who have never tried other high-end radar detectors. You can't compare the V1 to the ****ty Cobra you bought at Wal-Mart.
