FAST keyless entry system failure

Hi all,

one of my two FAST keys began not to be recognized by car any more... While pressing buttons the LED flashes, but car will neither open nor start. As the dealer we have is pretty expensive and a new key is $400, is there a way how to try to "re-program" this key to ECU?

Martin.

Possible it's a low battery? It'll start acting up before it gives up lighting the tiny lil red LED.

The baterry was replaced, it is not the issue. The key does not work even in emergency position, I gues there is a problem with the immobilizer programming.

Not sure what the warranty coverage is in the Czech Republic, but it sounds like this is something that should be covered by the warranty. Take it to your dealership and ask them to take a look.

One other thing. Has your key been next to your cell phone each time you've tried? Cell phones will block the key from transmitting with the car.

If by emergency position, you mean using the metal key with the remote at the end of the key, that should ALWAYS work. The remote needs no battery power for the RFID portion to work. If that doesn't work, something else is wrong, like the car losing the programming of those two keys. User manual says that an additional key can be added when you already have two working keys, but you can't add #1 or #2 without dealer intervention.

So it looks like I will have to buy another one, as my car is US origin and is not covered by warranty in Czech rep. :-(

My first FAST key took a dump on me 2-3 weeks into owning the MR. SO i started using my second key and 2 days later the buttons stopped working BUT the car sees the key and will open the doors and start.. anyway i went to one place to have the keys reprogramed and they could not do it and sent me to Mitsubishi. At mitsubishi they connected the comp into the OB port and same thing. they could not figure out what the problem was. There computer was reading all the commands that the key was sending example open door open trunk BUT the car was not responding. when they tried clearing the key the comp said key is missing. SO it looks like something is wrong with the modular in the car. have to go and get the fixed.

+1 This was verified by a Mitsu tech last week.

Mine was pissing me off when I would walk up to my car all cool and try to open the door and pull the handle and the damn thing wouldn't open. Now I know better!
