Reverse Light Wire

I am installing a backup camera with an aftermarket nav system. Which wire behind he dash is controlled by the reverse light switch? I don't want to run a wire from the reverse lights if I can help it.

P.S. I searched but did not find what I was looking for.

At one time I had a picture but I can't find it now. I installed my reverse camera a couple of years ago and never could find the wire under the dash at the time. I ended up following the white wire from the reverse lights to the back seat. Take out the back seat and you will find a thicker (maybe 14-16 gauge) solid white wire in a cluster of wires on the left (drivers) side. There are two looms of wires, but only one of has a thick and solid white wire. That's where I tapped in and it works good

I just tapped the reverse light wire as it was coming from the trunk lid into the rear deck. Took all but 3 mins.

Thanks. I might just run a wire from the reverse bulb. I am running some wires from the trunk anyway.

Where did you mount your camera? I mounted mine right about the license plate. I'd like to move it up to the stock location in the middle of the truck, but its kind of an eye sore there and I don't want to drill into the trunk lid.

I am going to mount it to the license plate. I don't like the stock location much.

There's an easy to access wire that gets +12v behind the dash that was on a taped back plug. My Eve did not have the RF Nav unit, so I am figuring this does connect to that unit. That was my guess with that plug so I got out the DMM and probed each terminal on this plug until I found the wire that has 12v + when switching into reverse. It's the white wire with silver dots on my 2013 GSR. I connected this to the reverse wire on my Kenwood and I can now enable Reverse interrupt.

Thanks Jeremy!

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but this saved me running a whole other wire from the trunk.

The easiest method I’ve found in previous cars was taping the power wire to the reverse light in the trunk. That way you don’t have to run a wire all the way to the front of the car too.

Yes, power for the camera from the reverse light, signal wire for the stereo from the white wire in the plug behind the stereo, as pictured above. That leaves just the single video cable to run to the stereo.
