Any pictures of the new system? Are you able to hook up the steering wheel controls? Can the stock GPS antenna be reused? Thanks

I have a ton of pictures . I'm thinking of writing an entire article on it. Yes on the steering wheel controls. No on the GPS antenna, but if you're going to replace the Nav unit with a Nav unit it comes with a GPS antenna anyways.

Instructions

Prep:
  1. Format the USB to FAT32
  2. Put the update.package file in the root of the USB
Updating:
  1. Turn the car to ON (don't really need to start it up)
  2. DO NOT PRESS BRAKES
  3. Wait for everything to be loaded on Nav.
  4. Plug the USB in with the update.package file in the USB drive
  5. Press and hold set + navi at the same time for about 3-4 seconds
  6. Go to Hands Free Module
  7. Press S/W Update
I forgot when, but at some point it will ask you for a password/code, just input 1234 (in that order).

Once the update is done, it will reboot and it'll say update successful and you should have version 9.0.0. Then simply press back until you get back exit that especial menu.

Instructions for non-nav system WITH USB port:
  1. DO NOT PRESS BRAKES
  2. Turn audio system "OFF"
  3. Press the following in order: CH1 preset Button, |<< (seek down) button, >>| (seek up) button, and then CH4 preset button.
  4. "HFM DIAG" should be displayed on the system, if not repeat previous steps.
  5. turn the volume to 0
  6. press the "CH4" preset again to toggle through the diagnostic functions
  7. then look for any PN lower than 8785A035 or S/W lower than 0900000
  8. Once you see "HFM OK" displayed, press CH3 preset button to toggle back until "HFM DIAG"
  9. Once you see "HFM DIAG" again press "PAGE" button to enter update mode.
  10. To enter the update security code, press CH1, CH2, Ch3, Ch4 in that order
  11. and the update should start updating.
  12. once that's done press "PAGE" button to return to "HFM DIAG"
  13. turn off the ignition and remove the USB flash drive
  14. test to see if it worked.

If all of this didn't work, let me know.

PS: You don't need this update if you don't have a USB port. This update is only for compatibility with iOS 4.0 or higher through the USB port!

So I did the update today and the I pod works now, however I went to use the bluetooth afterwords and when I push the "speech" button, I no longer hear the female voice and the bluetooth is unresponsive. Any ideas?

After I did the update, I noticed a similar issue, turned out the Bluetooth volume level was turned all the way down. Try hitting speech button then turning the volume dial one click to see what the level is set to.

I don't want to give you too much credit, but you could possibly be a genius. It was the volume. I would have never guessed that the volume would be the problem. I was thinking of going to the dealer and playing dumb. Thanks for the advice.

I got my Evo last week so I'm not sure if I need this upgrade or not? Where can I check to see what FW version I have? When I was looking for it under system info (I have nav) it told me i have version J? I was trying to find where it said FW version 9.0.0.

Also does anyone else have to wait a few minutes for the ipod to load?

Thanks!

If your iOS 4.0+ loads, then you don't need it. I forgot how to check for the version. But if your iOS 4.0+ says "Connection Error" or something like that, then you need it.

I remember hearing about this update not too long ago so I contacted the company that creates FUSE and asked them if I could download the update from them. Their reply was that it must be done by a certified Mitsubishi dealership. I just laughed and knew that our EVO community would come through for us sooner than later.
