You would think. Feature-wise, the new upper-end Kenwoods are damn near perfect.. unfortunately, the hardware just isn't up to the task of processing all these features.

Was almost 100% certain I was gonna buy a DNX9980HD until I started reading the complaints over at Kenwoodforums.com and watching the reviews on Youtube.

Press an on-screen button > lag, wait 2 seconds > function finally happens.

I'd have it smashed & tossed out the window within the 1st week

I have a Pioneer Avic z120 in my 08 GSR and have had no problems with it. Sound is very good even with the OE speakers and amp

If you search the forum, there was a couple of members that had this unit and said it was okay. Think I also saw a few installed in Lancers on Youtube.

Found one of the threads about this navi (nearly identical versions are sold under different names)..

New double-din nav units were announced today..

Alpine INE-Z928HD (LINK)
  • New interface, larger 8" display, BT streaming is back, new 3D maps w/terrain

Kenwood DNX9990HD (LINK - PDF)
  • Doesn't seem much different from 9980HD, interface looks better

Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH (LINK)
  • Updated nav to 3D graphics, Aha now works w/Android

Parrot Asteroid 2DIN (LINK)
  • Android OS, most in-depth voice-control, apps

Haven't looked into what's new from JVC, Clarion or Sony yet.

All of them seem nice, but I'm thinking the new Alpine is looking the best so far..

Ok sorry been reading through so i had my mind set on a z130 because it was able to be programmed with the bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel.

But its actually through a harness not the radio itself?

Does anyone have an aftermarket double din or flip out working with the OEM RF system & bluetooth buttons? W/ no issues?

Yeah, as long as you have the steering wheel buttons and/or the bluetooth buttons, you'll need either the PAC SWI interface or the Metra Axxess interface to have them work with an aftermarket stereo. I'm pretty sure, it doesn't matter if you have the base stereo, RF or RF navi. Though, I do think there are different PAC SWI versions.. ones made to work with Pioneer, and others to work with Alpine (or other mfgs). Most aftermarket nav systems have some sort of input for these interfaces (maybe not all, but most of them).

Found these quotes..

FYI program the unit for eight like the instructions say. Then instead of the 9 list of programming do this.

1-9 Same as Instructions
10 Phone Status
11 Pick up
12 Hang up

All done.

After much deliberation, I purchased the Kenwood DNX9980HD of Amazon for $1000. I've had it installed and been using it for a few weeks, and it's been great. Yes, it can lag at times, it's not always the most responsive, but it doesn't bother me. It's got anything I can ask for in a car stereo. Plus I've got it paired with the Garmin EcoRouteHD and the Gauges look perfect on the dash.

I'm really leaning towards the Kenwood 9980 now, since it can do the guages with the ecoroute module. Great way to see your car's info without some tacky guages stuck on your dash.

It can do timing advance, PSI, intake air temp, oil preassure, battery voltage etc etc. All customizable.

Hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy, the DNX9990HD will be out.
