How bout getting a cheap cellphone and having tracking on it. Hide the phone in the car somewhere tucked really tight.

Ok. Here the main point if someone hasnt said it already is someone wants your car bad enough no security system or any guard is going to protect it. That's why you get insurance, they'll pay for a new car. If you don't have insurance thats your fault. So spending money on an upgrade is doing nothing except keeping your conscience clear and you wallet lighter. So the best thing you can do is put your car in your garage and/or lock the doors

Ok, got it...comprehensive insurance is something you should have on any high value vehicle

BUT...it doesn't any kind of equity you have on the vehicle already (money down, trade in, mods, etc)...even IF you had gap insurance to cover the difference, you are not in the same financial position as when you invested on the stolen vehicle.

So people getting worried about vehicle retrieval is completely valid.

Theft is also a factor that influences insurance rates.

Most people don't want to wake up to find their car stolen, dealing with the hassle of not having a car, filing police reports, insurance claims, taking the inevitable loss in value that the insurance company will pay out.

There are simple and inexpensive ways to minimize the chances of getting your car stolen.

A COBB AccessPORT is $600 and even if you don't use it for tuning your car, the anti-theft mode means any thief is gonna need a frickin' tow truck to get your car.

To me, $600 is a small price to pay to avoid the headaches and loss.
