My interior + carpc
My interior + carpc
I thought I'd share some pictures of my car pc to maybe give people who want to do the same some ideas. I've had it for about a year and it works very well. The reason why I put the computer in the glovebox is primarily so it's easy to take out. I had a completely in dash carpc (using the same bybyte enclosure I use now) in my previous car and getting the thing out of the dash to make modifications or add stuff got old very fast. It was a via p.o.s. too so it always crashed. With this design you unscrew three bolts and take it out from the front of the glovebox. I also like the fact that there was very little wiring to do since everything is so close together. Changes to the dsp are also super easy to do on the fly.
There are also some pictures of the gauge pod I made so people can stop asking me for them
. They're not the best but you can probably figure out how I did it. If you need clarifications just ask. Like I said in the gauge pod thread I wasn't happy with the Agency Power quality, looks, or price so I made my own.
I'll update this thread with more pictures when I install back my trims (I covered them in alcantara).
Quick pc specs:
Centrafuse + sygic nav
Mac mini (march 2009)
Bybyte double din box with lilliput
mp3car HDradio
BU-353 gps
aquisition board from evoscan to log AFR and boost + openport
Joycon EXR for steering controls (works very well for those wondering)
carnetix P2140 PSU
JBL ms-a1004 amp\dsp (with stock speakers
)
Excuse the mess in the glovebox it's my usb hub. I goes near the mac mini but I didn't move it back.

Edited with some explanations as to why I put the mini in the glovebox

Wow, I didnt know you could fit a mac mini motherboard in there! Now I want one....
Are there other double din boxes that would center the screen more? I wouldnt be able to stand it being off center.

If your any good at fabricating stuff you can make your own front panel without much trouble. There is a gap between the trim piece and the metal brackets that holds the radio so you could easily offset the screen as you like.
This also allows you to use a bigger screen which I plan to do eventually...
